orange spot goby

anyone owned one of these guys? i'm trying to decide between a yellow watchman and the orange spot. i would eventually try to pair either one with a pistol shrimp.
as of right now there are no fish in my tank, but i am planning on a purple firefish and a tailspot blenny before i add in either one.

Yup, I've had two orange spotted gobies in the past. The first one was out all the time and had a whole chain of burrows in sandbed. He was a great fish but then went missing and i never saw it again. The second one i had was smaller and a lot more shy. It never really ate much and one day before going to school I saw a group of hermit crabs eating it. if you decide to get this goby I would add it first followed by the firefish, and then the tailspot blenny.

well im not 100 percent sure on this but i dont believe that the yellow or the orange spot pair up with shrimp, i do believe only the ones in the classification of shrimp goby pair up. i can tell you this. i had two of these guys at different times and both jumped out of the tank.

Orange-spotted shrimp gobies do pair with pistols. My pistol is on his second o-s (first one jumped) and they're happy as can be. They have a network of caves that runs all over the right side of my 90g, and they're forever renovating. Very fun fish, and a little less common than yellow watchmen.

as far as jumping, did you guys have netting or eggcrate over your tank? i'm going to put one or the other and don't want to spend the time making something that has already failed.

I have three layers of netting over my tank. I followed other RC members' method and found it pretty easy to construct covers using bird netting (the stuff they protect fruit trees with) and window screen framing material. I've got a goby and two wrasses that would easily fit through eggcrate, so this solution was perfect for me.

Be careful with eggcrate. With a "secure" lid I've lost 2 wrasses and a jaw over my time in the hobby and its just not fun. I think the fish somehow figure out how to jump straight up through the tiny hole and manage to just squeeze through.

I do find gobies are less of jumping hazard with a shrimp. I've been able to pair gobies and shrimp up pretty easily but you may be able to order an actual already made pair from your LFS if you ask. Natural instincts are pretty wild and usually kick in, though.
