Hey all SRC is over and, well, what is left to do until our next meeting but to party?

A few of us were joking about the irony of ORCA and sushi, and yet, there seemed to be a little interest in it so here's an open invitation for any and all of you who would like to go:

When: 7pm - July 21 2007
What: Yummy sushi!
Where: Amura Japanese Restaurant
7786 W Sand Lake Rd
Orlando, FL 32819

If you're interested and think you'll be able to make it please post here so I can call them a day or so in advance to let them know our approximate party size.

See you there!

What an awsome idea! I like your style Christie. I think the idea of having a regular sushi night is very cool. Members could introduce other members to their favorite sushi joints all over the Orlando area.

BTW, we have an Amuras near us also and it's Mel and my favorite place to eat. Their sushi is out of this world and their "cooked" foods are just as excellent. I suggest the "Rolls Royce" sushi roll (actually cooked) for newbies. It'll blow your mind.

Unfortunately Mel & I are going to miss this outting since we have plans already. Have fun y'all !

Matt... I would hope you and Mel have plans.. and it better be together without ORCA and something romantic and or fun! :)

Maybe the next time around we can try a Sunday but I thought going out saturday night for the majority of folks would be better than sunday night and having to work the next day :)

we'll suss it out :)

Hehe for Sushi amura is a little on the higher priced side, Kobe is..

What's that saying about going to a steakhouse for steak? :)

I had a Rock and Roll at Amura the other day and it was the best tasting thing I'd ever had. It was eel, smoked salmon, and tempura shrimp with eel sauce all over it (I'm pretty sure thats how it was) and omg yum!

For lunch they do bento boxes which are neat you get a meal, some rice, a few california rolls aaaand something else that I forget.

Eh, you should have it at Origami sushi here off Alafaya...Sand Lake is out there.

Also, if anyone is out by UCF and wants to hit up $1 sushi at Fusion happy hour, I'm always down.

By far the absolute best sushi I have ever had anywhere is Gizmo sushi at the corner of Semoran and University(they have a 180G saltwater reef tank there also). Korean sushi is by far the best!!!! Beck(the Korean owner) is an awesome guy also.

Amura is awesome, iam in for the isleworth boat, but i do like the fry em up thingy they have at amura as well, nothing beats the old hibachi grill.

I love Amura! (The crab rangoon roll is a personal favorite) I usually go for the raw stuff, but do try to avoid anything that I'm currently keeping. Like, I don't eat tridachnids. :) Shrimp are fair game though.

There's a tiny little place up by us, Fuji Sushi, which is really good and cost is pretty reasonable for sushi.

I agree with Matt - we need a "tour of Orlando!"

Becca, plenty of sushi is cooked - it's mostly rice anyway, but all of these places do have other entrees. Amura has a killer Orange Chicken. I'm always too stuffed on sushi to enjoy it, but it's really yummy.

Craig, tell me more about this Fusion place and their happy hour sushi...

:) Danielle

Danielle, here's the info
Fusion: Right across from UCF in the UC7 plaza, right next to Broadway Pizza. 3:30-5:30 $1 sushi (maybe sashimi also...I like rice, so I don't know). Anytime you want to go up there, give me a ring.

Only time I ate at Fuji, I was not impressed. Their rice was not the best, the miso was lackluster. If a sushi place can't impress me with their rice, I cannot frequent their establishment...I mean, how hard is it to make non-mushy white rice??

Again, anyone that ever has the time to make it to sushi, you have to try Gizmo...you will not regret it one bit. The aquarium alone should keep your interest during the dining experience:). The only negative I've ever heard about Gizmo is that it takes a little longer to get your food, even just sushi...well worth the wait!

Since I've been speaking of food and the UC7 plaza, this next statement is not too far off topic: for the best Mexican food in Orlando, go to El Cerro in the above mentioned area. I'll go up there almost any day of the week if someone ever wants to go...

My boss went to a place yesterday on Alafaya and University called Thai Sushi. Its not in the plaza, but right on Alafaya on the right (if you are going South) just before you hit University. He said it was excellent. Its not far from work, so I will have to try it out on lunch sometime. He also said the prices were good.

ps the steak at joe's crab shack was not so good ask pam. the crab legs were ok but it tasted like butter. i need lesson's from russell on how to get the meat large enough to taste.

OMG nobody mention Seito Sushi in baldwin park and winter park village!!!!! That is the BEST hands down.! eeek I love going there.I spend like 60 bucks everytime I go.Great idea though but Ihave some prior plans to go out with some people or else i would be down for it.

Well it looks like we've got a long list of sushi places to try in the future - but Kevin and I will be at Amura Saturday night and wont mind trying new places to come..

but hey I had to just pick one! And yes they totally have other stuff than just sushi there! Steak, chicken, pork, just veggies if you prefer not to eat meat of any kind.. quite a variety!

At Amura's, if you don't like sushi, definately try the Sesame Chicken. It is to die for. Of course they bring a huge platter that is enough to feed 3 people. Their prices on dinner entrees are reasonable (under $20) and like I said, you get a ton of food.

If our plans change on Saturday, we will be there. :)

I just went to the Thai Sushi place the other day...I love that place. I always end up eating their Thai instead of their japanese menu.
