Order A2615547

Hi LiveAquaria,

I thought it would be easier to just post a thread rather than emailing, my email client is all busted right now =(

My order A2615547 came in safe and sound, I stepped out right when it was shipped, but brought in the animals probably 10 minutes after it was delivered.

My two anthias have died unfortunately. The first died on Sunday, the second died today. My tank has three other anthias from my previous order, who are alive and strong after a few months now. They don't show any aggression, as they are small, and definitely didn't pester the new anthias.

One of the anthias I saw eating a few days ago already, but then died. The other one I didn't see until it was already decomposing. I disposed of one already, but the one I found today I froze.

All my water parameters check out.

My previous batches did a lot better. Not sure if these just were in worse shape coming in or something.

Let me know if you'd like that specimen, otherwise I'll dispose of it.

The snails I got are doing fine though =)

I was wondering if you could credit my credit card back for them for now, as well as any other credits I have on my account at this time.

I may stay away from ordering ventralis now, I might have just been lucky with the first batch.

Let me know!

THanks a ton!

Kinetic,

Thank you for contacting us. We are very sorry to hear your Anthias have not survived. Although they are gorgeous, unfortunately they are a fragile species to keep. We will credit your credit card for the loss of the specimen. You will see this credit back to your credit card within 5 business days. We also removed the credit from your file and have refunded back your credit card for that amount.

We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for choosing Drs. Foster and Smith for your live aquatic needs. You are a valued customer and we look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Thanks for the prompt response. I've always been happy with my purchases, and only through LiveAquaria do I ever risk trying to keep the more fragile of species, mostly because of the great practices you guys have in quarantine and shipping.

oh man, the two new ventralis I brought in definitely came with some kind of bug. I didn't QT them at all, just acclimated and added. Big mistake!!! I've just lost all my ventralis except for one, and the last one is about to go, all within a week. The other ventralis I've had for months and they did really well.

I never knew what happened the last week, they just started dying. My water params were great, and the only new things were a few snails from you guys and the 2 new ventralis. My last one definitely shows some sickness. This morning she was totally fine, now I checked and half her face is eaten away, and she won't eat anymore.

it's like a white growth coming from her gills. spreads within a day.

So 2 of the new ones gone, and now the three great ones I had before are gone too. I'm so sad =( I need to QT from now on... I guess I was just lucky and felt the LA fish were safer than usual. CRAP. Another regret from a non-QT person.

gah, i'm super distraught now... at least my gobies are all fat and happy =(

Kinetic,

Thank you for contacting us. We sincerely apologize for the loss of the Anthias. It is never easy to loose any fish in an aquarium. Ventralis Anthias can be a little more difficult to acclimate, as they are quite fragile fish when first introduced. You are correct in stating the best thing to always do is to quarantine any new additions for two weeks to ensure they are eating and well adjusted before adding them your main tank.

It is difficult for us to determine what was white growth was. It can be many different things even the slime coat and the fish picked up on that and started to pick at her. We would be happy to issue a credit on your file for these fish that were purchased back in the beginning of March. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.

Hi Stacie,

Thanks for your prompt response (on a weekend no less)! I don't think any fishes picked on them, at least the last one, since there are only tiny gobies (eviota / trimma) in the tank with them.

And you guys are so awesome for offering credit on the anthias from march, I'm truly appreciative of your generosity.

I will setup a nice QT tank and once that's all ready I will try the ventralis again. They are so beautiful, and I've learned quite a bit about how to successfully care for them in the past few months.

One thing for sure, QT!
