Order of adding tangs?

I currently have a fairly large yellow tang in a 75g tank along with a juvenile hippo tang. They yellow was the first to the tank followed by the hippo.

I've recently added a powder blue and have a tank upgrade in the works (building the stand).

The yellow tends to pick on any and every new addition to the tank. I want to add one more tang to my 120 when it's up and running. With it being a new tank and the fish not having staked a claim to parts of the tank, is there any order in which you think I should add the fish back in?

I think 3 tangs in a 120g will be pretty much maxed out. My yellow doesn't allow any new tangs in my 170g. Also, unless the tank is 6 feet long, the powder blue and the regal will eventually need a bigger tank

nikon187- either im blind or you misread cuase i cant find any mention of a regal tang in the first post lol.

cromedogg33- if i understand my info correctly, powder blues are agressive so i would add him last for sure. i would probably add the yellow and hippo at the same time if possible, otherwise i dont see an issue with adding either one first cause my yellow is a model citizen in my 75.

I would not add any more tangs . If you already have the three put them in at the same time. If the yellow is much bigger give him time and he will bully the others. If you only have two just stick with the two.

Right. Order is irrelevant.

I would really like to understand why you feel this way? I also take into consideration I have a juvenile hippo and a 4" yellow tang and a 120G IMO is plenty big enough for them. I know that 5+ years down the road when the hippo gets bigger that I may have to get a bigger tank but that won't stop me from enjoying my tangs in the mean time.

Again, I was asking on order and if people had experience with the order of putting the fish in, not the fact that in some people's opinions I have too many tangs.

From what I've heard the hippos grow pretty fast...like outgrowing a 4' tank in a couple of years.

You're getting ready to get seriously bashed. You should go ahead and duck.

When everyone is beating you over the head for your 3 tangs in a 120, keep in mind that everyone wants the fish to THRIVE, not just survive. Just because a ONE FOOT tang will physically fit into your tank doesn't mean that you should put it there.

Having said that...I'd go hippo first, then yellow and PB.

Thanks Evil,

I do understand thriving vs surviving and I want to provide that for my fish while still enjoying them growing up.

I also understand the size contraints the fish will need eventually, but who in the hobby hasn't wanted to upgrade every 5 years

Thanks for the replies from everyone.

in what order should i put my feet when i plan to walk out into traffic ? my left first or my right? I'm righty so my right is stronger . maybe i should hop out there? my feet are size 8 1/2 so I know they fit in the road just fine. Oh i'm sorry did i just say that out loud .........

I got a Hippo 6 months ago and it was between the size of a quarter and a silver dollar. He is now 4". They grow fast. IMO yellow tangs are very aggressive. He should have went in last.

One more comment and then I will leave you alone.

The best advice I've ever heard (which snorvich recently reiterated) was to get fish for the size tank you have NOW rather than the tank you PLAN to have.

You never know what will occur in the future.

Good luck though. I hope your fish do well.

I don't understand they are very small they will be fine for a few years I woud introduce at the same time that way no one feels it is their territory yellow can be just as aggressive as pbts. My yellow went in last and he bullies sometimes.

A small regal tang ( hippo) should outgrow that tank in 2 yrs not 5. They are one of the fastest growing tangs..

They are not that fast growing, at least my pair aren't growing fast. I have 2 of them for over a year, and they have grown a half inch each. From 3.5 to 4 inches, and 3 inches to 3.5 inches.

As for the order, knowing your yellow is already aggressive, I would add him last.

How big is the Powder Blue in comparison to the Yellow?

LOL What size tank? That makes a big difference. ANY tang given the proper environment will grow 'fast'. 3 tangs in a 75 is as nutty as a squirrel turd.

Just another one of those useless 'I'm pretending to ask for advice but going to do it anyway' threads.
