Ok guy's, my orange monti cap frags arrived today. They were packed in a styro cooler with two heat packs. Color was great, a very deep bright orange and huge about 3 inches no lie. I temp accl them for somewhere between 15-30 min's. Then drip accl them for about one and a half hours closer to two hours. The temp accl was with no lights at all, and the drip accl was with a little light. I placed them inthe tank in an area where they will get medium to high light and very good water flow so that no debris can settle on them. I did not glue them down because they will be moved soon when my rock gets here. Wish I could get a pic for you guy's. The best I can do is a pic of it's mama of which credit goes to zanclus.

good thing you finally got that behind you
i dont think that acclimating that long helps, i usually just throw them in with maybe temp acclimation

I usually do that with the corals just temp, but for some reason I thought it would be good to drip acclimate them. Was real paranoid about lossing them.

yes, I broke down and paid the shipping buy ups ground. I got them the next day from NY. I haven't glued them down yet though.

i like em they make a good reef inhabitant....when people think of reef tank they have these in there minds....but on the drip acclimating periods..i read somewheres that it increases the longevity of life with starfishes mainly, but i dont see why the same principles wouldnt apply to corals as well...when i do a drip...i just drip till it reaches tank temp, sometimes it takes 20 min sometimes 2 hours depending on how much water i start with when i get shipments...but i read i think it was a book by shimek about how starfish expecially the linkyas need like 2-4 hours drip acclimation period cuz it makes there life span increase....ill have to find it and write itword for word...another rule of thumb i read somewheres was to double the amount of water for acclimation time...so lets say you get a fish with half gallon water...then you should drip till you get 1 gallon total... or if you have a fish with 2 gallons water then you should drip till you get 4 gallons total...this is info i read from these forums...dont ask me where but i know i read it somewheres...lol

the reason starfish need 4 hours to acclimate is because they are extremely sensitive to salinity
corals are different, they are much less sensitive. and by acclimating better you dont increase the life span of the inhabitant rather just eliminate the cause of death to acclimation. acclimating over hours is the old school way. most fish and corals if they are healthy to begin with dont need to be acclimated, only temp acclimation. but with somethings i now you dont want to risk it like in reefdwellers caps. sometimes acclimating certain fish and corals can accually be worse than if you just throw them in the tank. with corals, they slim up when you handle them and if kept in a bag for hours to acclimate the slim will build up and because there is no flow to remove it, it could sufficate the polyps of the coral

lol i have a choclate chip starfish that came with the setup i grabed him pulled him out of the water and tossed in a bucket i did drip all the fish for about an hour and tossed them in i dont think this star would die if i wanted it

Nice caps. You shouldn't have to glue them down. Mine grow attached in a week once they are wedged into a crack. If you need anymore or want some green with blue/purple rim let me know I have tons and it grows like a weed in my tank.

How do they grow into a crack? I posted about gluing my montis down & I don't know what to do. Mine is sittong on top of a flat piece of rock, but is still wiggling back and forth a tiny bit in the current. But if I don't have it up there in the current, detritus will lay in the bowl.

I shove it into a crack so that it is held tightly and it grows attached. Mine has grown up a small valley in the rocks and grown between about 3 or 4 rocks.
