Ornamental Shrimp or Not?

How about this by my good friend Ricardo Calado in 2001 I think, maybe 2003.
So what makes you an ornamental decapod?
If you are brightly colored;
If you perform a valuable task;
If you have a neat or unique behavior;
If you are rare;
Or, if you are just plane weird;
If, you can sing and dance….

Ok, my sexy shrimp are ornamental. What about my peppermint shrimp? They are colorful and perform a valuable task. Cleaner shrimp, too.

I have no idea! Can't see where it would make any difference either way. So what do you call unornamental fish?

Non-ornamental shrimp would be along the lines of ghost and mysis shrimp. For the most part, if you buy it with the intention of keeping it alive, it's ornamental. I'm not sure where commensal anemone shrimp fall though... probably ornamental, but I'm not sure.

Worlking on a fish compatability list for my new 75 tank. Some fish say not compatible with ornamental shrimp.

Thanks for the info. :)

If it says not compatible with ornamental shrimp it means that the fish is pretty much not compatible with any shrimp. You'd have to choose what is more important to you, having whatever fish it is or having shrimp in your set up.
