Osmolator + Calcium dispenser

I'm thinking on buying an Osmolator and a calcium dispenser for my setup but I would like to know a little more about them before I order. I've heard a lot of good things about the Osmolator but not much about the dispenser, any feedback?

Is there a website where I can download their user manuals? also where can I get the best deal for those 2 units?

Thanks!

I can email you the manuals. With the holidays coming many dealers will probably have holiday sales. I use them on my aquariums, the calcium dispenser is not enough to supply all the calcium demands on the majority of set ups but it does help and it helps stabilize KH and pH.

That would be great, here's my email vzlainusa@hotmail.com

Thanks!

Not to hijack thread but in a 75 gallon tank and 15 gallon sump, my calcium reactor is not able to keep up without dropping pH too low. I am adding 60 ml of 2 part balanced calcium solution per day. I guess I could use peristaltic pumps to pump in this much of each part of the solution or I could add the calcium dispenser (I already have an osmolator). Any idea as to the amount of Calcium which the dispenser could add per day versus 60 ml of EBV's two part solution?

Thanks,
Neal

Neal,

Your Calcium reactor should be able to handle your tank. Verify the volume of the output. Slow it down to few drops a minute. The PH would be around 6.5 at the efluente.

After few weeks your Kd will be around 11 or 12 and your calcium will be above 420.

With the Kd at this range, your system PH will be around 8.2.

Summary, focus on Kd and then your Ca will be ok. This process will take about 3 months to reach these levels.

I handle mine setup of 280g with about 80 drops / minute efluente with 60 bubles of CO2.

Regards

The calcium dispenser will mainly help with the low pH in this combo, two part supplements should be more effective than kalk at dosing calcium. I use a 3170 calcium reactor with the dispenser and I am always surprised how stable the pH is, it generally stays between 8.12 and 8.18, I have my CO2 set to kick on at a pH above 8.15. Used together you could up the CO2 and drip rate.

Just to follow up, my caclcium reactor is coralife, not Tunze. Not really happy with it. Unless it is set up wrong, it just can't handle the load without dropping the pH too low. Alk is already high, yet pH is low. This would appear to indicate CO2 is high and this is what is limiting my ability to increase Ca++ further. I have drip rate up at about 60/minute. (Should it actually be lower???) I figured the Lime water and CO2 would produce Calcium carbonate, raise pH and allow calcium reactor to be run more aggressively such that between the two, I could dump the 2 part supplement.

Thanks,
Neal

Yes, that is what would happen, just keep in mind you would raise the KH by this reaction so if the KH is already at 12 or above this might not be a good solution, I would check the KH of your effluent. I don't have the chart memorized but I know somewhere I have a table of effluent KH vs drip rate and I will try to find it.

Right now, too much of what I'm doing is dealing with my low pH from all the CO2. Once I'm ready to roll on this, I'd probably dial back by calcium reactor and slowly beging to add limewater. My alk is high now, but once I'm no longer forced to focus so much on pH, I can use add turbo calcium or something similar to optimize the calcium without raising alk more. Once Ca++, alk where I need them, it will hopefully just be a matter of balancing limewater and caclium reactor settings to keep Ca++, alk, and pH optimized. Or so I think....

Thanks,
Neal

I think your plan would work, I would wait until the KH is down to at least 10 though before you start.

You should get two emails, one with the 3155 manual and one for the 5074.

I got them both thank you so much!
