Osmolator issue

Green light will stay on to correct water level every night . Wake up in the morning to red lights flashing signifying sump level too low. Have to unplug and plug back in, then water will refill to sensor and stop . Come back from work, red lights flashing unplug unit, plug it back in water fills to sensor and stops, green light comes on . I changed out pump, cleaned the sensor it seems like it may be something in the 5017 causing this. This happens sometimes twice a day , sometimes it may go three or four days before it happens . Thanks Roger

Hi Bella,

Are both the too low and too high lights on or only too low? Too low would happen because the pump ran 10 minutes and a fill is not registered and it shut down as a safety. If the tank is really large, over 300 gallons, you may need a larger pump. It may also be the hose is plugged or crimped and I have seen units with a defect where it switches to too low after only 3 or so minutes.

If both the too low and too high red lights are on, this is an error code and can be caused by a magnetic field near the controller, critters crawling on the sensor, a problem with the sensor installation or water damage to the controller. This means the controller is getting mixed signals, too high and too low. A snail or hermit on the float can cause this, if it coincides with a light coming on it may be EMF interference from a ballast, if the controller is near a magnet holder or cleaner that is also a possible cause. If the float or magnets are assembled wrong the magnet holder can activate the float switch and also cause this problem.

My system is only 75 gallons and I installed a brand new pump , new hose , no crimps . It is just the too low light that keeps coming on . I turn off unit then turn back on and then I have to raise the float switch until it beeps for the pump to come on and fill water to optical sensor level and it then shuts off and green light comes on . Next morning red light comes on too low . Are you sure it can't be anything else?

It is always possible it is something we haven't seen before, what you describe doesn't sound familiar. How old is this controller? Did it work well until recently?

About 4 years old is the age of the unit . This is the third pump I went thru in total . This problem started bout three months ago.

I would have to see it, your description doesn't match problems I have seen before. Please send it in and include the pump and power supply. Also, include a note about the problem or print this thread and include your phone number and return address.

Nope , still the same thing is happening . Fills to green light then over night the too low light flashes . I will send it on Monday morning.

This sounds identical the issues I'm having. At first pump wouldn't turn on so would have to mess around with float sensor until pump would finally kick on. After about month of doing this it no longer works at all. Still get too high or too low lights though.

Pump does work when hooked to 9volt battery, and I replaced European connectors with new ones. Still not working. Have had mine for about 3 years. Probably need to send it as well.

The 9V battery test only confirms anything if the pump doesn't work, a pump that works on a 9V battery may still draw too much power and trip the controller to shut it off. You are welcome to send it in, but please be aware that if the pump is 3 years old, you will likely need a new one, 4 years is about the longest they ever last and 2-3 is the norm. It is probable that there is some other small electrical problem as well.
