Osmolator power adapter

Hi I have an older Osmolater that works fine except that there is a problem with where the adapoter plugs into the main unit. I have to fiddle with it or put pressure on the side for it to get power. I tried to buy a new adapter but the one I bought would not fit the unit. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I would open it and check the condition of the power receptacle. You may just need to bend the contacts a little if it is in good shape. If it is corroded it is best to get it replaced. It is also possible one of the leads from the receptacle to the board is loose. The power connection is 5mm by 2.5mm.

roger,

I just got a osmolator and is there any other power adapter that can be used? This thing is HUGE!

When I opened it up everything inside looked good. No corrosion and the contacts look good. That is what led me to believe it was the adapter.

It could be the power adapter is going out if these are the older brick ones that are about 4" by 2". What I have seen happen on these is the rectifier fails after some years so they put out AC instead of DC.

CeeGee, sounds like an older osmolator, the power supplies now look like many cell phone chargers and are quite small. You just need a power supply that puts out 9-12V DC tip positive at 1200mA or more. Ours is 11V at 1600mA.

Mine is also the old giant brick one.

Would the fact that I can get the power to come on by pushing against the side of the piece of the adapter that goes into the body be conistant with the rectifier? Seems like it would be some sort of contact issue.

No, that would be a contact issue, either the tip is corroded or something is wrong with the connector contacts. I can solder is a new contact if that is the case, if it is the tip that is corroded, it would be best to replace the power supply.

Roger,
I have a unit that is about 4 yrs old and the power supply is getting week. I have replaced pumps at about 1 every yr and a half or so but notice it pumps much slower now and the last pump I got this month runs real slow. If I hook the pump up alone to a 9v supply I have here for another item it runs great testing it so it looks like my power supply is going slowly.

You mention a few combos of the size PS to look for a dn was curious of which I need for this unit. I have the old 9/12v selectable one with mine now.

I have seen 9/12v 800 ma mentioned and then above 9-12V DC tip positive at 1200mA or more

Just want to be sure I hook up a correct one or get the right one.

Thanks
