Osmolator Power Supply

I have a 4 year old Osmolator that I haven't used in 3. The power supply that I have in the box might be the wrong one, because I can't get it snug in control box (which shows status). I really think it should be the right one, when I put it in, it doesn't click all the way in, and the connection is inconsistent (but it does work if I wiggle it).

So I guess I need to buy a new power supply. Do you sell them separately, or is this something I can just get at Radio Shack? Are there watts/volts/etc that I should ask for?

Can someone post a picture of the correct power supply? I've had so many Tunze parts over the years I suppose it's possible that I have the wrong one.

Thanks

Now I'm worried that I switched plugs. I used to have 2 Osmolators. The one I kept is the 5017 (a little older, but never failed). I hope I didn't give my other one away, which I thought was the older one.

Anyway, what I have is the 5017, and the power supply says:

MW
Universal AC/DC Adaptor
Model: M-800
Input: 120V 60 Hz 16W
Output: 9-12V DC
Current: 800mA MAX

And this one doesn't fit all the way in the 5017. Is there a quick fix? As I mentioned, the "male" part won't go all the way in the 5017, but if I wiggle it, it works for a bit (until I let go). When it works, the osmolator works beautifully, the optic eye reads the water level perfectly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

David

That is the older power supply and the power tip does not insert all the way, a couple mm will be exposed. The likely issue is some corrosion or a stretched out contact spring. I would make sure all contacts, inside and out are shiny nickel plate. You can open the osmolator and slightly bend the contact spring and get a stronger contact, so long as the parts are not corroded. The power supply is our part 5012.010, the current one is 11V DC and 1600mA.

Thanks Roger, I'll try to brush them out - see if there's a contact problem. There may be some slight corrosion. I never had the problem when it was setup, is this something that can occur while in storage?

Worst case, I can solder a new female receptacle to the board and a new power supply should get it going.

I commonly see such things from tear downs, most people bundle everything in a storage container or bucket and the high humidity from pumps and other items causes corrosion on electronics. I have done it myself.

OK thanks. If I can't get it fixed myself I'll send it to ya and pay for fixing. Still think the Osmolator is the best piece of equipment I've ever used.

Also I'm going to replace some Eheims with your new silent pump. Aq Arts is really low on Tunze stuff but I'd like to buy from an LFS. Will they carry them?

Quinn did just place an order, we are waiting on a couple out of stocks we expect early next week, he could add the silence pump, we have all except 1073.050 in stock.
