Osmolator power supply

replacing my Smart ATO and bought an osmolator 5017 used last night from a fellow reefer and since it looked brand new i didn't worry about plugging it in to test, got all my wiring and tubing run through my wall and plug in the power and it starts sparking inside the wall adapter and nothing came on.. Is it under warranty? is there a certain polarity on the wires from the pump to the terminals? Guess i'll be on manual mode for a while...

TIA

The most probable is that the power supply got some water in it at some point and just needs to be replaced. If you sent in the power supply, we would open it, if water damage was not the cause and it was less than 2 years old we would replace it. Another possibility is a wrong power supply, this happens a lot more often than you would think as it looks very similar to an Apex power supply and many others. The correct power supply will say Tunze 5012.010 on the underside and is 11V or 12V depending on age, 12V is newer since early this year. The pump has no specific polarity and would not likely be a cause, the controller would cut power to a faulty pump and save the power supply. Unless the pump was not the correct one or something was modified or the controller got wet, I think the power supply is the only issue. The power supplies are readily available and cost $19.77.

Excellent info, thanks so much!, The power supply says Tunze on the bottom right and is 11v 1600mA, I guess i will just order a replacement since i don't have time to ship back and forth.

that was the issue, new power supply is working great! love this ATO so far, now just need to order a check valve and to find one of the screws for the back of the controller...

Unless you are running a kalkwasser reactor, you don't need a check valve and I would not recommend one, a siphon won't occur if it is installed correctly and the most common siphon is from reservoir to sump if pumping downhill, a check valve won't solve that since it is a siphon in the direction we intend the water to flow.

I am running exactly that, I modified an MR1 Monster into a dual chamber Kalk stirrer which the ATO pushes water through. The way i have it setup and because the pump sits lower than the top of the stirrer, once the water level starts to drop in the container i get a siphon from the kalkwasser.

Thanks for the confirmation, any idea if i can order the metal screws for the back of the controller? all i can find are the nylon ones for the clamp

They aren't available as a spare part, I would probably check a specialty screw store, if you have no luck I will see if I can request a couple from the factory.

Just not my month... ordered the Tunze one way valve and now one of the power supplies for my 6055 dies...

The power supplies are more readily available, Amazon stocks them, part 6055.240.

I know this is a few years old...but can someone let me know what the polarity is on the center pin of the power supply? Positive or negative? To be clear I'm talking the barrel plug that plugs into the Osmolator itself.

Thanks

Thank you Roger. Once I spliced the cord I could see the "ground" wrapped around the insulated cable so i figured this out and got lucky.
