How does this work, an IR type sensor is placed in the sump (how big is it) and the backup float sensor too? Then the pump is placed in the resevoir of water. How does the sensor mount in the sump? I have viewed the pics on your site but is not enough. This unit I plan to use solely for top-off purposes. Does the IR wear out? What about wavy sump water, how does that affect it? Any further explanation is appreciated. Thanks.

The sensor mounts with clamps and a set of fiberglass rails. The rails can also be siliconed in place. The IR should not wear out and is about 1" long and a 1/2" in diameter. Extremely turbulenmt water and micro bubbles are a problem and you should place it in a calm area free of bubbles.
