OT - Anyone else do vintage car racing or have a porsche-914?

So I got another 914.

It is race ready: rollbar, removable steering wheel, stripped down.
The body is perfect NO DEFECTS or rust that I can find.

It is from Phoenix AZ, just about the best place you can retrieve a vintage car from.

I paid $3k for: ....... wait for it.......
Race ready 914 running with no rust & a rollcage.
4 wheel trailer with ramps, wheel rack, & toolbox.
new (additional) 2.0 liter engine with everything including extra engine tins & EFI with ECU.

Also, a racing suit, shoes, gloves, etc.

Whoo! Hoo! back in the game!
I figure I just put myself about $10k ahead of where I was for $3000.

Oh and it was delivered from phoenix to denver!

"Nice score on the VW. "

OK - them's fightin words.....;-)

It says Porsche ( that's two syllables) on the title so dont give me any crap!
I know that I would have to bow down in shame at a PCA meeting ;-)

It doesnt matter what it is if it can drive right up your arse;-)

My whole motivation for the project is:
1 - I want something that has a chance of keeping up with a nice Tr4
2 - qualifies for the RMVR
3 - ........ I had a beautiful 914 in college and sold it - DOH!

It's all good, and I just might put a Por-sche emblem on the hood to irritate the purists ;-)

Porche \Porch\ Noun:

1. A glorified VW

2. Barrio Boxter

LOL!

Freddie40 has a 911 he calls his VW

914 are way cool for racers because they are affordable. A friend had one of the 6 cylinder versions the body was a little rough on. He had done some work on the engine and the thing made a cool sleeper.

Ok, I'll admit ( just dont tell my family ).... that a US standard 914 is not a porsche it is a VW on steroids.

However, if you claimed that these were not "Porsches":

You would be b&&^%-slapped by the Porsche enthusiasts:

At lease one of those, the Porsche family offered to buy back to put in the Porsche museum. AA said umm... how about NO.

Some of the 914-6/GT cars go for over $250,000.

All of those cars 916. 914/6, 914, etc started with the exact same body from karmann.

The ONLY difference in a true Porsche vs VW hybrid was what parts got put on after the fact.

I can only hope that I can find the parts to make a "true Porsche" out of mine, but since I have a solid rust-free tub, I have a good start.

Now I only need ~$40k in funding to even be able to call it a 914-6.

Gads I wounder if the guy I knew still has his 6. His had a few dents and scrapes which is what made it such a great sleeper. Have no idea what he did to the engine but it was not stock. I know the history of the 914, just giving you crap. A buddy of my brother had a sweet ghia. Nothing wrong with those cars either.
