I am in the process of removing our old above ground pool and deck which will free up some space in the backyard for a small pond which is now a requirement as the kids have a duck lol. I am planning to use a vertical hydroponics system to grow some vegetables and filter the water. I will be using some shade cloth to block most of the sunlight from the pond to hopefully prevent algae from consuming the nutrients before my plants can. Has anyone here ever tried a setup like this?

Hmm, never thought of that. We've got veggie gardens & are gettin ready to put our koi pond back up soon. Sounds like a google search. Lol

I don't have our pond setup yet. I don't know if a new pond would have enough nutrients to support the plants. But we've been considering making towers for gardens. Might make one that runs off sump only & make one later to run off of pond. Now I wanna raise tilapia in the pond for food lol.

Wow they actually convinced you to keep that duck! Crazy lol glad it's doing ok tho :)

Well not exactly. That duck died and they talked me into getting a replacement duck as we had already bought all the "duck supplies". Here is a pic of the replacement duck. It is about 5 weeks old and is one mess making fool. We currently have to change 100% of the water in this kiddie pool daily as it gets nasty looking quick.

Lol I have been thinking about that too. I go on you tube to watch ONE video, My add kicks in and bang 4 hours later I want to redesign my entire backyard.

Phase 1 almost complete. Decided to build a raised hydro bed with some of the wood I saved from tearing down the deck. Still need to install the liner in the raised bed and plumb it to feed the waterfall. Oh and get my wife out of the pond too lol.

I haven't really gotten any further yet with our pond. We brought all of our rocks & such over to the new house but I'm still in the layout phase. Looks like another pricey hobby cause the plans keep changing. Went from simple liner pond to 6,000 gl concrete/ block money pit. Lol
