Ot: Avatar

Surely, in the last 15 years, you've seen SOMETHING besides this. I enjoyed Independence Day but why end on this one?

Lol, and why start with Avatar? It was an above average movie but there have certainly been better movies over the last 15 years. I'm sure (hope) he was exaggerating.

A little too long and predictable

I agree...

Took the kids to see it today in 3D Imax.....good movie. I like the way it started right away, no previews, no advertising, just the movie. Hec, it took a few minutes for me to realize it wasn't a preview of another movie.. Good job there.

We got there about an hour and a half before it started and there was already a line (Ontario Mills)

It kind of reminded me of what it must have been like in Montana and the Dakota's 140 years ago.

Very good movie. Cole and Taylor really liked it and that's what makes it for me.

loved the movie, i thought i was the only one seeing corals and jellyfish. lol
you can get 2 tix at costco for amc for $16 and upgrade to 3d for $4 and $5 for imax.

they said regular imax is better. i just saw the regular show cause everything was sold out.
wanna see it again in imax :-)

3d is the way to go!! Best movie iv seen in a long time I thought story line was pretty good but graphics and everythig else was just amazing! I seen it yesterday and damn the theater was packed!

This movie was very impressive. I saw it last night and I can't believe how good it was. I would recommend this to anyone who is thinking about seeing it. This is truly a one of a kind movie. A+++++

Yeah I kinda annoyed my gf by explaining the references to corals hahaha it was just too good of a movie there has been better don't get me wrong but I didn't know what to expect and this movie blew me outa the water no pun intended lol

I haven't finished reading this thread but I think that James Cameron has a reef tank and he's RC member :D:D:D Lol

Is it the 3D that makes a lot of the stuff look out of focus. It took me a while to get use to it, thought it was going to make me sick for a while.

Avatar made $278 million in weekend box-office revenue broke the previous record of roughly $253 million set in July 2008, the weekend "The Dark Knight"....but you have to account for the higher ticket price for an IMAX show....still a lot of money!!! Cost of the film...$500 million!!! And in the industry to break even you have to double your cost!!!

Actually Avatar made $75million this weekend. The $278million (actually $273million) was the ENTIRE weekend box office.

I haven't heard it being $500million, but a bulk of that is for new technology that will probably be used for the next decade.

Yeah, what's fake IMAX?

Fake IMAX is the one with regular theatres "outfitted" with IMAX style projectors and sound systems. The reason why they're fake is because even when they get the upgraded IMAX "quality picture and sound", they aren't showing it on a full IMAX screen. Yes, they do upgrade the screen from the regular theatre screen to a slightly larger screen, but it certainly cannot compare to a real IMAX experience.

The pic describes it better...

I saw it last night I found it to fall in line with the tree hugging ageing hippie liberal agenda. I found it funny. the best part is when the black jaguar gets shanked and owned by the military guy lol.

The final cost of the film was $500 million that includes marketing! The actual production and post for this movie was $300 mil. They started filming this movie about the same time Michael Bay started filming the first Transformer! It took almost 2 yrs in post production! The marketing machine on Avatar is a beast! The box office numbers are world wide! But you have to account for the higher ticket price for a IMAX film!
Cameron is the man he can back up his projects! They're saying this film so far (world wide) has made 700+ mil! Nuts!!!
