OT: Can I use my TV as a PC monitor?

I know that most newer TV's have a special input for this purpose, but I have an older model TV. I'm wondering if there's a way to plug into the RCA inputs of my TV so I can use it as a monitor?

Yeah there is a device that does this. It is usually expensive. Most new tvs have the vga input on them or s video if your computer outputs this.

Let me give some more detail.
I wanna watch movies from my laptop on my TV. So, I won't be using this as my primary monitor. The only inputs that my TV has is RCA. My Dell laptop does have VGA, but not S-video. I'm also wondering about the picture quality when using such a device?

The issue with TVs as monitors is the refresh rate on the TV is horrible. If you have a new Plasma or LCD it might work but an older TV, you'll get a picture but it will suck.

I run media center xp on my pc and have it connected to my tv via a media center extender. This gives me access to all of my media on the pc from the tv. Additionally, I am able to save live tv (similar to tivo) edit out the commercials and save it on my pc.

What is media center xp and a media center extender?

Media Center XP is just another version of XP, I believe that media center is now included in Vista. The extender is a box that connects the pc to the TV (my pc is in the kitchen and the TV is in the other room). This allows me to view movies, pics, music etc on the tv just using a remote.

mevstheworld, the 1st link you provide seems to be a device that would allow me to watch TV on my PC. That's not what I'm trying to accomplish. I want to watch videos/movies that are already on my PC on my TV. As far as Nero goes, is this what you use? How does it allow you to wirelessly watch movies in your living room that you have stored on your PC? Does it have a separate device that hooks up to the TV?

Esquare, is there something specific in that link I should be looking at? It's a bit confusing.

The Green Button is a site that is all about Media Center. The Green Button refers to the color of the media center logo.

Ok, I'll read more about it. I don't have vista. Will it work with XP. Is the extender a wireless unit? How's the quality when watching movies?

Media Center works with xp (that's how I run it) The extender is both wired and wireless and the quality is great (I don't have an hd tv so your results may vary).

Mev that cable wont work as it a component cable. Most tvs don't have that input. It is a total different type of signal, he needs something to go from component which vga basically is to composite.

I forgot to add: he needs to check his manual(laptop) and see if his graphics vga is set for an out also. If it is in only, then no. If so, it will work. Good lookin out though ;)
