The phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid, aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno't mtaetr in waht oerdr the ltteres in a wrod are, the only iproamtnt tihng is taht the frsit and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it whotuit a pboerlm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Azanmig huh? yaeh and I awlyas tghuhot slpeling was ipmorantt!

So if you read this then your now relize that spelling is not important Its about how ones mind translates it. I spoke with a friend of mine who is a professor in california. he told me that people are so abessed with spelling its not funny. He also pointed out that its all about how one's mine translates things. Pretty kool if you ask me. Our minds can unscabble things we never thought they could. alot more advanced than any computer could be.

Although that would be an appealing interpretation, that's not what that actually proves. That's a study into human cognition and decoding skills. Spelling is about one persons ability to effectively communicate with another. While it was possible to decode the the encoded paragraph it did impede effective communication.

As an English major, I'm interested in a study such as this. However, in a situation in which someone misspells something, it still drives me insane - not necessarily because the message is lost, but because I think that poor spelling and whatnot reflects poorly on the writer.

And it is also important to note that every word in the sentence contains all of the proper letters, no more and no less. You still have to know how to spell the word, you just don't have to get all of the letters in the right order!

Effective communication goes well beyond writing. As we continue to effectively evolve into a higher state of being, we continue to grow and utilize so many genetically encoded abilities that we posses and often suppress. Cognition is a small factor of our overall subconscious and underlying abilitie to translate word, thought and the physical. Translating scrambled words, though initially seems like a recovery of learned vocabulary, also utilizes our minds ability to translate and modify the seemingly unknown. Great application for mind exercises to stem the flow of disease….A computers ability is limited to the constraints of software/hardware and that which we create. It will never process more than human ability, simply an effective tool for processing information at slower speeds than our human mind.
Great piece RRyan.

Although very strong first impressions, I will dismiss spelling and grammar errors just like I do a persons clothing and personal apperance...There are many rich people that look like bums, and there are many poor people that appear wealthy.

There are many dumb people that simply know how to use spell & grammar check... There are also some very brilliant people that don't spell so "good"...

(especially on a forum message board)

What the paragraph shows is kind of an example of this comment from the Matrix.

(Rules of a computer system...some of them can can be bent. Others...can be broken. Understand?)

Out brain is capable of breaking the "rules" that a computer "must" follow regarding the proper spelling and deciphering of a word....The only way that the computer would interperate those words as correct is if a human changed the rules to make it correct.

I might be able to read the words if the center letters are not in the right order, but it is much more difficult and it takes much more time. And just because the human mind can comprehend the words, it does not mean that it should be done.

I can mumble my words when I speak and others will understand me. That does not mean it is not important to speak clearly.

I think the over-arching issue of effective communication is key. Okay, I will just say it; when you misspell words, choose not to use punctuation, and have poor grammar, it becomes incredibly difficult to figure out what the heck people are trying to say.

If people can't understand what you are trying to say, then the point of the post is completely lost.

In the body of the original paragraph the words are misspelled, but the grammer and punctuation are pretty darn good.

Do you mean grammar? ;) :p

I think that the whole point of my existence is to strive to better myself in every way in spite of my shortcomings and disabilities.

If you are fine stagnating and defending your ability to not click the SpellChecker button then go for it. I for one will at least fake literacy!

When I write large paragraphs I write them on the word program and copy and paste them here and post them. I mispell far to often and and reverse my letters to much when typing fast. So i type everything I need first then go back with spell checker and fix the issues. The shorter answers comments I don't sweat the details I'm aware of my personal ignorance and as long as the people with whom I type to can comprehend what I'm trying to say then I'm not to worried about it. Still not an excuse though if you misspell everything all the time, then you might want to use the spel checker alittle more often in that case.:p

Perfection isn't always right. Nor is our preception. I am a bad speller. I admit it. And I refuse to cover it up just so I could get an A in someone's book. this is who I am. Spell check is also cheeting. I am I don't cheet. so I guess the world will have to deal with my bad spelling. peoples bad spelling don't bother me. In fact it gives carector to what I am reading. kind like and insight to how they preceve things. yeah I know Bad spelling through out my whole writing. just a reminder that nobody is perfect.

One should never take pride in that which can be easily corrected.
deep....

that really messes with my dyskexia! pretty cool. I struggled for about three words and then I was able to read it as if it was written perfectly. BTW you mispelled some words in the second paragarph.........
