OT computer network help

breutus

Don't ask me, I'm wrong.
Figured I'd see if anybody here might have any idea!

I have a laptop that has been on my home network previously. I unhooked everything recently to drywall my basement and when I went to hook everything back up yesterday I am unable to connect the laptop to my modem.

I am able to get on other unsecured networks around the house so I can assume the problem is not with my Laptop. And I am able to reach the internet through my modem with the hard wire connection on the desktop.

I have tried changing the WEP pass phrase and also tried changing to an unsecured network, The laptop shows I have full signal strength from the modem but when it tries to connect it just sits there for a minute looks like its trying to connect but then nothing.

Anybody have any experience with this?

It is a 2wire wireless modem and router

Was the 2wire un plugged for an extended period of time? Have you reset the password on the router and computer? Sometimes you have to plug in the router and then remove the old network name from your list of preferred networks and re add is with the current password.

lmk if i can help anymore

i have 2 wire also, when you search for available networks make sure yours shows up. I disable my ssid so mine doesn't show up to were someone can piggyback of my network so i had same problem except i couldnt find my network to get back into luckily wife has computer on same network. You probally need to search for network and click to connect and type in ten digit number off your wireless router to re connect to network, and if all else fails use your install cd and reinstall everything.

have fun when you upgrade to vista i just got an alienware computer with vista and my wireless adapter wasn't compatible and had to head out to best buy to find an adapter vista compatible and then had fun getting connected to network again. Vista making me mad but slowly adjusting, but alienware aurora system is the most freakin awesome computer.

good luck
i have both older and newer install cds and if needed if you use 2wire adapters they have website for drivers and install disc have drivers also.

well it's working at the moment??? and for no reason it seems, it was unplugge dforever but I ttried new password and I tried even running unsecured and nothing but then all the sudden it found it and has been working for the last hour???
