Howdy all. Got a bit of an off-topic post here.

I need to hire a replacement computer technician (software / hardware support) as I lost an employee today, and need to fill this position as soon as possible.

The position is based at our office in Brentwood, TN, and the hours are 8am-5pm; we rotate after-hours on call support monthly - a cell phone would be provided.

We have a propriety software package that we would provide training for, and we support around 5,000 sites across the US. This individual with be responsible for the daily first level technical support for our clients.

The ideal candidate would have a tech support background, and be familiar with remote support tools such as VNC / PC Anywhere, etc.
Strong knowledge and hands on experience with Windows 2000, Windows XP and Vista
Able to troubleshoot network problems, serial connectivity, and dial-up modems
Familiar with VPN & RAS
A friendly, positive attitude is a must, with good customer service and communication skills
Some travel will be required
Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.

PM me for additional details regarding this job if you are interested and to possibly set up an interview. I want to have a tech hired by mid next week, so if you know of anybody, please let me know.

I'm not looking, and couldn't even start during the time you are talking, but just curious, if you don't mind me asking, what the starting pay range for something like this is. Not even really my skill set, I'm a VMWare and Citrix guy, like I said, just curious. Will completely understand if you don't wish to say.

Thanks,
Matt

It depends on experience typically. I will discuss compensation and benefits with candidates as I speak with them - normally I would post a range, but this is a different kind of environment  VMWare and Citrix administration is a different skillset and a different sort of position. We use Server 2008 with Hyper-V and 2003 Server, but dealing with that is not really part of the job.

I won't get it because my reef is not computer controlled! hahahahaha. I was just passing along the contact info for a friend. No way I even know what the fin he is talking about!

Andy, I would go out on a limb and possibly suggest you're over-qualified. But you knew that. :p :D

Maybe..but I like Zach and it would be fun working together lol..the satisfaction thing goes a long way..but I suspect you may be right. Besides,,how could I leave a place where data center generators literally explode on a saturday night, and I get as much PTO as I can possibly shcedule without impacting performance

Exploding generators? Sign me up

I had a server catch on fire once up in Illinois. Stuff like that always happens after 5pm on Friday or the weekend, ya know?

I can be a bit of a hard-*** and it's a fast paced environment. But it's a small company and we all have a good time :)
