Copper was probably worth what maybe $30 scrap?

When we do jobs downtown we have to hide the copper mains into buildings with PVC, or people will cut the copper off at the concrete before we plumb/frame the building. Did your guys cut the copper flush with the concrete. Thats a real pain, its what our thieves do.

wow that blows my mind. i know that copper and iron is high right now but i think they could have made more money stealing the appliances i guess they are too big and draw a lot of attention. i hope they did not damage any high priced items (funace, water heater)

I feel your pain. What is really sad is they would have made more money if they would have worked that hard honestly. Dirt bag central. Catalytic converters are anywhere from $75 to $300 scrap price. A customers fleet had 30 cut out of trucks one night. I wish they would start cutting hands off again!

So they left a stove, microwave, dishwasher, sink and faucet for 50 or 60 bucks in copper?

It's a good thing most thieves aren't terribly bright.

Should have taped 1 $20 2 the door, with a note take this & not my copper. Yes the left a brand new stove, micro,dw & a $200 faucet. Stloe the shower curtian, I guess to wrap the copper in when they walked down the street & none of the neighbors heard a thing.Good news is buyer just wanted to know if i could get it back together by 3/16 his closing date.

Actually this isnt that surprising. Copper is at an all time high (yes, even after today) and a house of piping can run into the upper hundreds to a grand even

Sorry to hear about it man, just sucks

Left the wire alone, the main water line ran above the drop ceiling, got the a-coil off the furnace & took every last inch of the condensing line to the c/a unit.

My fiancee is an architect and she has a project in an apartment complex. She was doing a preliminary walk-thru of someone's apt. to see what needed to be updated/fixed when they remodeled their unit. The people were very nice once they found out she was there to get them new appliances, etc. and let her right in (this is not usually the case) as soon as she stepped through the door she heard a squish. She asked why the carpet was wet and they said it had been that way for 2 WEEKS. I forgot to mention they are duplexes. So she and the contractor went next door. All the copper had been ripped out of the house with the water running FOR 2 WEEKS!!! The whole building had to be gutted. Maintenenance had been called every day but they showed up once and said they needed to call a plumber. Never showed...

My buddy out in Pacific had that happen to his old house on the property but the cops caught and prosecuted the guy. He gets a tax write off. They were going to level the house so in this case, the estimate to repair was an awesome deal for him.

I'm a metal commodities trader. I hear about this stuff happening on occasion. Copper is up pretty high (not an all time, that was late last year). I think they got more than $50 or $60 out of it. Copper can go for up to $3 a lb (higher if it is primary grade). They probably won't get that for their scrap, but might bet $1.50.
