OT- Copper Thieves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess they could not get the oven in the shower curtain? They should be shot! Hope it all works out ok.

price of copper and brass goes up thieves go nuts throw an appliance away in trash by morning the cord will be gone. Just did with a microwave not long ago.

i know an electrican that takes all the left over wire home and burns it and he drips the copper out the bottom of a barrel and sells the copper. of course what he does is legal

dang.....that reminds me of the episode of "Dexter" on Showtime. Dexter kills a guy who is stealing copper from a new builiding. Thats not why he killed he though. My brother in law just had a ton of aluminum stolen from a house he is rehabing in Granite City. People are sad...Maybe they have a saltwater tank as well and are just trying to support their habit?

That sucks Kurt. Maybe the guy will get several huge lungfuls of the smoke when he is melting off the insulation and die a horrible death in a few years....

Is that too evil?!? Eh....

:mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

The St. Louis Board of Aldermen recently passed a bill about scrap metal dealers meant to curb this type of thing. Any scrap metal dealer is now required under a new ordinance (I will look up the number if you are interested) to take a photo ID, along with a LOT of other information, from anybody who brings copper/other metal into a dealer. Of course, if this didn't happen in the city...

When My electrical company was on jefferson in the city people would take the big reels of wire and roll them down the street to broadway then to "south side recyling" about 2-3 miles. We found them and they got in trouble then moved into our new place on green park "south county"

I am very sorry this happened to you, or anyone. It is worse than just taking it off the truck or out of a yard. Even though that is bad enough in itself. Insurance will hopefully take care of the damage. But to me, it is the total disrespect for you hard work.

Copper theft is real high right now. you wouldn't believe the lengths people will go for some free dollars.

In this business, I've heard of people taking metal benches from parks and even street light poles. All you need to find is a scrap yard that is willing to shred it and not ask questions.

With Cu prices this high, many yards are hiring security to watch the place overnight.

Thankfully, laws like the one posted earlier are getting passed all over the country. It is easier to go after the yard buying the scrap than the people stealing it.

Eventually you will have four thugs with a light pole and nothing to do with it.

i work around copper all day high grade to at olin i never seen anyone even think about it. Being in maintenance myself i get sick of looking at all that metal in that place. They pour that stuff out of furnaces all day long, whats really neat to watch is went the furnaces melt out the bottom and that molten copper or brass runs out everywhere making a big fire not good but looks cool.

In the city, its especially bad. People steal anything--anything made of copper. Brand new air conditioning units worth 20000 are stripped for maybe 100 bucks worth of copper. Senseless. I wish I had a license to kill... Did I just say that out loud??
