OT Dog and Cat Adoptions

When did this board turn into a dog/cat adoption site? I'm sorry but the top couple posts on this forum are of people trying to adopt out there animals, and thats just sad. I hate to sound heartless but frankly, i don't want to see this when I'm looking at a reef forum. Its pathetic, and heartless. People, if you can't keep animals don't buy them/adopt them. Its as simple as that.

If you loved your animals, moving would NOT stop you from keeping them. I hate it when people act sad about getting rid of their animals. It is YOUR fault you are getting rid of your animals, and YOUR decision. Its not everyone elses fault that you took the easy way out when looking for a new place, and found one that didn't allow pets.

I disagree. Where ever there moving to might not allow pets. Maybe there moving into the city and it wouldnt be fair to the animals if there isnt a place to walk them or let them run. Also if they have never had a pet they might not of known how much work they really are. At least they are trying to find a good home for the animals instead of dropping them off on the side of the road or something. If I was trying to get rid of my dog I would probably come here first if a friend of mine didnt want him. At least here you know these people love animals of some sort. You have a better chance of knowning that your dog or cat is going to have a better home. Thats my 2 cents.

I am back in for the night after helping at the rescue center for the afternoon. Figured I'd give my 2 cents as well since I feel this was directed towards me more than anyone else since I made 2 of the posts.

I DID mark them as OT, and especially the subject matter. That being said, if you chose to read the post after seeing that, I guess they didn't offend you quite as much as you stated.

And situations come up in life that sometimes we have no control over, and we do the best we can to deal with it. I am being responsible for my pets and ensuring they get a good caring home that I approve of, not just anyone. I would not drop any pet off where they could be euthanized. It is very hard to part with your pets if you really care about them, and if you are a good and decent owner, you do the best to find them an equivalent home that will care just as much. I think it's horrible that people degrade other members because they actually care about their pets and make a post Off-Topic to see who might be interested, and then those are the only ones who should continue on and click the post to read further. Not someone who claims they are sick of seeing these posts, and then clicks on them to read more. lol.

I figure that is about as much as I want to get into on here, I will leave it at that and add that the response you gave is about the exact response I would expect from someone who has less than 25 posts on here total.

Oh and FYI, I DO check out the homes, I do not just let someone pick them up and take them to who knows where. As I mentioned in my post, they are signed up through Petco, and petfinder.com. There is an adoption process, as well as follow up. If adopted through me though, they would be free if the home was right. Enough said. For the ones who care, Thank you! For the ones who don't, I could care less. Don't read the posts if they aren't anything you are interested in!

Man, it's funny to hear someone into reefcaretaking that absolutely hates animals so much!! What, would you rather an owner who can not/does not/will not take care of their animal to just keep it and harm its life?? Come on!! This is a club forum...not every topic is reef related...and not every topic should be reef related. If you want that, go to one of the other forums where they are only allowed to discuss reef topics.

I've never heard of anything so absolutely absurd. Have you ever had any pets in your lifetime? Have you ever sold a fish or coral? If you've ever sold a fish or coral, did you not know what you were getting into when you bought it or did it outgrow the environment or did you just not care for your pet? Have you ever bought anything for your reef from another club member? If so, you are promoting exactly what you just ranted about!! If I feel strongly that my opinion is true, I will not continue to feed the opposite opinion. If you went to a store to buy every piece of coral, every piece of rock, every grain of sand, every fish you have in your tank, then my comments are misguided and I apologize. But if you have ever bought or sold anything on this site that was alive, you are a hyppocrite(don't know exactly how to spell it). I truely hope you were kidding, because that was the funniest thing I've read today!

It's also really funny to me that you give advice on how to give them up for adoption, you tell him good luck, and are very courteous in that post and then then, six minutes later, start a rant about the person in a new thread.

Selling a fish/coral is much different than getting rid of a cat/dog. A cat/dog is a lifetime commitment, a fish gets no emotional attachment to its owner. My post was not meant to be heartless, etc. It was meant as exactly the opposite.

Anyone that has to get rid of animals, should NOT own them. I hope that any of you getting rid of dogs/cats know what you are doing to the animals, and the burden on society that getting rid of animals really causes. I see this all the time, and frankly, when I come onto look at reef tanks, etc I don't care to see it. That is all that I was saying.

It wasnt meant as a personal attack, that is why I did not put it in his post. I genuinely hope he finds good homes for his animals, hopefully ones that will actually keep and care for their animals.

I have three dogs, and would NEVER get rid of them. I know that it is very emotionally traumatic for them, and I know that i could never be guaranteed that a new home for them would be a good one.

Frankly, I don't hate animals. I love animals.

I HATE people that treat animals poorly, and buy tons of them without giving them forever homes. If you're going to have 6 animals or whatever, you better make sure that you can assure a forever home for all of them. If there is any doubt in your mind that you will be able to keep them forever, then DONT GET THEM. Only 25% of all animals stay in their forever homes for their entire life, and I think that is just a pathetic statistic for our country.

We live in a country that doesn't care about animals, and people like this that just get rid of animals because of situational changes, etc make up the bulk of this problem. I just hope all of these people that have to get rid of their animals think twice before every buying a dog/cat again.

Well, gee.......since you put it that way, I guess I should have left those darn kittens out on the street where I found them. Yep, you're right, they would have been much better off. I took them in only after seeing them out more than 1 day to make sure they weren't someone else's or because I saw others mistreating them and took them in to save them from the torture. But you are so right, I should have left them outside, it would have been MUCH better for them.

Is this guy for real??? What a joke. Has he posted anything about reefkeeping since he's been here? Or does he just post to critisize others?
:rolleye1: :rolleye1: :rolleye1: :rolleye1:

wow you are SUCH a good person.

you're no better than the person that put those cats on the street in the first place.

Good call robin, this thread has reached private status, Limbo your entitled to your opinion, but till your in Robin shoes theres no reason to harass her. EVERYONE has had something happen in life that was unexpected.

I will not become more involved in this, I pretty much said what I wanted. I will say to the above comment, go to SITC and see Cyndi, Marcye's sailfin. That thing is more of a pet than most furry creatures. She has moods, she has emotions, she definitely knows who her owner is. If Marcye ever gave her up, the fish would probably die from stress. My fish hide when someone else is peering into their tank, but when I go in front, they get excited and know me as well as I know them. To me, they are pets, whether you can pet them or not.

I do agree with you, I hate lazy owners and I don't like seeing people give up their pets. But if there is a legitamate reasoning, I think it is important for the animal to be in the best care it can get, which many times means giving it up to someone else. Pets are still domesticated wild animals and would be in existance whether someone bought them or not...Heck, if someone else can better care for an animal, by all means let them take it instead.
