OT- Downsizing in my R&D...guess I'm back on the market

I know I've been scarce on these boards for the last week, so I just wanted to drop by and say hey. There is a reason and that is because I recently was downsized from my company. After almost three years, it was a shock to say the least. At least it is definitely not all bad. I always try to look on the bright side. I had been working there and while doing so received my BS in comp sci and my minor in math and had offers from other companies. I had become comfortable in my position, had loyalty to the company, left on really good terms, and earned my education and experience all at once. I could never hold a grudge to them...it's the way of business. It was just a way to spur me toward a much better opportunity where I can make a bigger impact and step toward a brighter futere. The position was great for a college student, but it was only scheduled for 6 months and it was extended to three years, so I always knew it was temporary.

I have just been pondering my future and I have been deciding where I want to go and what is in store next. But, if anyone knows of a company looking for a new addition to their IT department, I am available to interview. I have many references from my previous position including two main supervisors of my work and also employees who I worked with. I know this is not reef-related, but any networking help is a step in the right direction.

So its like computer work type stuff. I talked 2 of my friends that in the computer world making the big bucks and they told me you would have no problem finding a job doing that stuff in Orlando. There are plenty of jobs. I said great are you guys hiring. They said no. lol lol Sorry im tring to help out.

Craig, would u want to relocate?? I do believe the Casino in Tampa is hiring, They are upgrading to two floors and are going to be needing a bigger staff soon...

If I relocated at this time, it would be to California. Otherwise, I would like to stay here for now. There is opportunity around here and it is a good location for technology driven companies. Truthfully, I am interested in being in a market driven company that must continue advancements in the IT department so that the work will be interesting and cutting edge. I'm checking around Research Park out here, because that would be ideal as I live right here. I have been checking on the job sites, been in contact with my job placement firm, been talking to many of the people I know, and searching through all the options. It used to be so much easier to find a job when I was working as a dishwasher...now that I have my education things have become so much more competitive.

Thanks everyone for your input...see you Saturday.

Best of luck with the search Craig- and if you find anyone that also wants a CpE in a year or so let me know haha :)

I think when you find a company it should be a nice upgrade if I remember what you told me about your job and the way you were hired and what not. You'll do fine :)

See you saturday!!

craig, i am in teh same boat. was let go in december, took three months to land a decent paying contract position but now theyre talking about being short on the budget dollars so that may end soon. not to mention all of the medical issues ive been having from working at the hospital. send me your resume, i can pass it along to all of the recruiters i have been working with. whoever said its easy to get around here is full of it. well depends on what you do really, i am a jack of all trades in IT, from business analysis to networking archecture to systems engineering etc... im finding the market here really wants specialists which is different than it was 3-5 years ago.
