OT: Final Test

Well, I thought it could never be done, but it can. U Can't Finish is now becoming U Can Finish(seven years later as long as we have the class you need to take and as long as it is not full). Funny how the average UCF student takes over 6 years to graduate. Yeah, I'm one of them. Wish me luck: one more test and I'm grajamanatin'!!!!! I can't wait for 6pm and walking off campus for the last time as a student and becoming the alumn I should have been two years ago.

Took me over 6 years. Could never get a good class schedule to be a student and work full-time! Congrats it will feel so good to have that diploma.

Done with my test and done with school(for now). Will receive my CS degree in the next week or two and then I can start thinking about what I want to do. The question now is should I get my math master/doctorate or should I take a whole bunch of pre-reqs to get into marine bio degree. No way I'm continuing in CS or into Software Eng. Trying to find a job in IT(software, hardware, or support) as of now and may take a semester or two off. Two of my three advanced electives were dedicated to the implementation and analysis of computer communication networks and I have a Network Plus certification from CompTIA, so I have all the knowledge someone could have at my level, just missing the experience.

But on the important note, I'M DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Soooo, how much longer do you have in school?................just kidding

Sounds like you will have poker money.

Before you know it you will be 40 and think, "damn, that came quickly".

ive got just over a year .
our program is pretty cool
we do one class a month
30 credits a year so its not too bad
we meet once a week and one saturday a month

cschweitzer, Good for you! Too bad though we just hired a IT tech just last week, help desk but it would have given you all the network exprience you would have wanted. There's not a MS solution that we don't have.

That's awesome congrats :):) I am just hoping I pass this semester.

Where wou ld you go for marine bio? i'm seriously thinking of doing that after I graduate .. computer engineering here.. what's wrong with us liking our hobbies more than work?! hehehe

Well, that's obvious...work sucks. I've been thinking about it quite a bit and still have no starting pont from which to work. The two schools I would like to study at are UM(Way too expensive without scholarships) and WHOI, or Woods Hole Oceanagraphic Institute in Mass, but that's kind of unrealistic. Haven't even taken the GRE yet, so that might be a ways away.

I do have some theses I'd like to work on and some ideas to help advance marine study, conservation, and our hobby as a whole...

There's a guy in Jax that graduated from WHOI this spring. Seems like an odd location for studying coral. I hate cold weather.

Why can't UCF be on the water? and what program was that dude in who died studying turtles? Well, maybe thats not a good way going about finding a program...

I have become so consumed by this hobby and just absorb every single thing I read = its like studying for fun! Why can't I remember engineering crap like this??? I would be interested in doing it too but wow, yeah I'd need to graduate and work for af ew years to afford something like UM... I'm not too keen on going up north either...

Woods hole.. I remember being little and watching all of their research on whales. Very cool stuff. Maybe there's a school not in the country, yeah, thats practical! lol :(

Grats. Getting into any IT field is pretty tough. IME, degrees don't do much. It's all about experience. We hire our helpdesk guys in and the last one had about 5 years of experience. I would personally go get yourself virtual server. Load up server 03 and start practicing getting yourself a nice domain together. Practice authorative restores and other AD based functions.

I normally don't recommend the MCSE testing however it does give you knowledge but just not experience. I went ahead and did all those for 2000 and 03 just because they paid for it here(the tests). Even though I won't utilize 85% of their scenarios, when something creeps up remotely similiar, I recall that and it does help you understand concepts. I don't recommend the boot camps as I find that a waste of money unless your employer sends you there :).

Grats again.

Yeah, some things I'm interested in were never touched in my courses, but almost all of the basics and programming of networks was covered. I'm getting interested in Storage over IP, or SoIP. I'm also interested in the IPv6 with 128-byte addressing. I think these are the future of technology and they are just on the verge of creation. Yeah, the latter may not be necessary implementation at this time, but when we run out of addresses and no new people can work on the internet it will be useful. Much more work needs to be deployed before these ideas are widely used and I love the network and transport layers. I know, I know, I sound like a geek. Still, reefs are my passion and ultimate goal.

Yea I haven't worked much with storage over IP. Our whole city is fiber so we use our storage through a SAN over fiber. I haven't messed with too much ipv6 either. My recommendation is find a job that lets you get into many different parts. Many out there stick you in one spot and that is it.

Good luck.
