OT: Front load washing machine better?

Well, my dryer has died and I'm going to replace both washer and dryer. I've never used a front loading and was wondering if anyone has any feedback? Thanks, Marcye

I have heard that front loading is better. I see a lot of new washers an dryers that are not front loading. there also some that are able to be stacked so they save space.... and IMO they look better. we like ours a lot better than our old top loaders

sears is having a sale at the outlet store off forsythe road, dont remember exactly what it was, but was even more than the usual discounts. Give them a call, 407-677-3472

The frontload washers have an upright, forward facing drum which is proven to clean better and is easier on your clothes and uses less water. Also, since the agitator in the middle isn't there, the frontloaders last longer and are quieter. We recently bought new appliances and I did some research. I feel wierd knowing that much about a washing machine.

MIke,
Did you buy a front loader just to make sure youre never tempted to use it as a QT tank? Kind of hard to fill it with water and then close the door. I can hear it now..... " Honey youll never believe the deal I found at the LFS we have all the fish we need......... but uhhhhhhhh were gonna need the bath tub, washing machine and sinks all to be QT tanks for a while" :)

 You're too funny Brian, but the front loader will probably end my days of using the washer as a recycler for my RO waste water.

Thanks, Mike, for the info. I'm looking hard at the LG front loader. Great reviews from Consumer Reports and has the all important bleach dispenser which some don't have. My problem is space. I really only have 24" in width in the space the old machine is in now and I need a stackable. The options on that aren't very good. A larger model is going to need some remodeling that we were hoping to avoid. So, back to the net and see what's out there. Thanks all for the input...Chad you're bad:lol:

Brian, I did use the bathtub as a temp tank before. When we moved to Alabama, we damaged the agressive tank. I kept the fish in the bathtub overnight until I could find a tank. I bought a used 75 and used it for a week until I could find another 150. The drain had a slow leak, and I added about 30 gallons overnight. What we will do for some fish.

We have had a front loader for the past 5 years and it works great. You can really stuff it full of clothes and they still get clean.

more efficient in water - dropped my water bill by $20 /month.
mine happens to be quieter, faster, cleaner clothes ..... and most important - that darn agitator slowly but surely kills your clothes .... i have quite a few NICE dress shirts ... expensive dress shirt ... used to take to the dry cleaner every time .. NOT anymore!

I have to agree. When we moved into our townhome .. 2 years or so ago? We started out from the get go with the Whirlpool duet.

i think you can stack the washer\dryer on top of each other.

Since you're short like me you'll find its less hassle putting clothes in from the front- I HATED having to lean over and try to find that last sock that had gotten bunched up under the agitator.

Its great for doing stuff like jeans and towels and is wayyy more forgiving on your clothes. They look newer longer - AND its great for putting your cats in.. jk :)

Not sure about the space issue but good luck with it marcye i don't think you'll regret getting the front kind if you do it!

We have the Duet set as well. I dont overload it though, sometimes it seems to leave some of the stains in. On the plus side, the clothes are almost dry when you take them out. The dryer is the most amazing thing I have seen, it drys in no time.
I researched the LG too, they had much better reviews than any other, but we found the Duets at a scratch and dent place for 290 for the dryer with the pedastil and it was 560 for the washer with the pedastil (sp).
There is a place by me called Appliance Liquidaters they are the cheapest around, and they just turned an Appliance direct into a Scratch and dent world over by me, if you call them they will check and see if they have the one your looking for and if they dont, they will call you when one comes in. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Thanks...where is appliance liquidators located at? I really appreciate everyone's help and input. I think it's a front loader for sure. I love new toys! Marcye

We have a new set of Maytag Neptune front loaders.
They really are better than a regular top loader. It uses less water, soap, and electricity. But the really cool thing is how quiet they both are.
The only thing that concerns me is all the digital controls.....
I guess I'm old school. I liked the old stuff where I could fix or replace just about everything on the machine

We love our LG Tromm set - feel free to stop by and check it out if you want to :) I agree with what everyone above says, larger capacity, less water, less damage to clothes, etc.

Thanks Val...and thanks all for th input! There are so many out there it's nice to have some opinions when we start looking.

apparently, it saves alot of water and energy, my parents do alot or research in stuff like that and knows a couple friends who have them, and my parents are set on buying one, so that emans that they outlast and outperform the top-load washers....
