OT: good/bad areas to rent in/around roanoke?

so i have a friend who may be moving to the roanoke area and is looking at places to rent.

places to look, places to avoid?

southwest roanoke is a good area to rent, right off of 419 and ogden near tanglewood, there are a bunch of apartments. pebblecreek, stonecreek, honeywood, and the fancy sunscape right at colonial/ogden intersection. Places to avoid? uhhhh stay off Melrose?
