OT: good karma does pay off...

I had honestly been losing some faith in society of late but still tried to treat everyone as I would like to be treated. The point? My faith has been restored... :D

So about 3 hours ago my husband and I get ready to leave for a trip to Canandaigua and I take the dog for a quick jaunt around the yard before piling him in the car for a ride. We proceed to exit the driveway, make a right at the intersection and drive 5 minutes down the road to the gas station. While my husband is inside buying me some Gatorade I realize it... Holy *&$% my purse isn't in the car... Holy *&$% I left it on top of the car when walking the dog!

Husband gets back in the car and we quickly drive back the way we came looking for it the whole way. I'm thinking... OK, the only places it could've fallen were at our driveway or at the intersection... can't find it anywhere! We both literally walked either side of the entire stretch. Nothing! So I'm spazzing out because my SS# card, license, keys, and the whole shebang are in that purse. We quickly went to Walmart so I could have another copy of both the house and car keys and had both figured no use worrying about the house key being used as our physical address isn't on anything in my purse.

Get home, report my ATM card lost/stolen and then in process of going to DMV's website to figure out what I've got to do to get another ID as can't get anything else replaced w/out ID... husband says "why don't I check the voice mail real quick".

Here's where good karma kicked in: The person who found my purse looked inside to find a copy of my husband's boss's insurance policy, called my husband's boss, his wife was like what's this Melanie doing with a copy of your insurance?, boss was like that's my employee's wife and voila! I have my purse back! :D

Lessons learned and now being shared: (also applies to men w/ wallets...:D )

-Never put purse/wallet on car
-Never have your physical address on your ID just in case the wrong person ends up w/ your house keys
-Never keep all possible proof of identity in your purse
-Get to know everyone you possibly can as someday they may recognize your name when it counts
-And NEVER give up on humanity! :D

Hopefully my stupidity has entertained some of you! Thank you and goodnight... ;)

Good to hear.

I travel a lot for work and my biggest fear is loosing my wallet. One thing I've been very good about is keeping a list of the contents of my wallet at home with all the important #'s. This way IF it does go missing, I have a single location to find all the phone numbers and account numbers (which most people do not memorize).

Great story. :)

For reasons I've been explained, but totally tuned out...... my father told me never ever ever to carry my social security card anywhere.

Two years ago I was in Siesta Key and walking the 3 miles back to the Condo from the Daquiri Deck at 2am with family. Our drunken logic decided that it'd be funny to recreate the fond childhood memory of picking each other up & throwing each other into the ocean like it were a snowbank.
My purse = open.
Cell phone = dead.
Wallet = gone. (mind you my wallet contains my license, credit card, wegmans card, video rental cards, blood donor card, and numerous reef/fish store cards no phone #'s or anything.)
I stayed behind scouring the beach for the next hour looking for my wallet by myself. Everyone else stormed off because someone got sand in their eye.

The next day my mom called me to tell me a woman who was walking the beach early in the morning and looked my home phone # on the internet. My mom gave her the number of the place we were staying. She wouldn't even take the envelope with a note & reward to give her. She gave me a hug. I sent it to her address without a return on it anyway. :)

My friends are always picking on me for my faith in humanity. I think it's the agnosticism that throws them off.

Gary, Sometimes I start to lose faith in myself when driving around here... the idea of slamming on the brakes for a tailgater when I'm already going 15 over the limit is just so appealing sometimes but then I quickly snap back into reality and realize for all I know they could have a child in the car. I still show them my brakelights occassionally but never actually apply the brakes. ;)

Stephany, That experience had to be crazy! I already have my husband on a mission of getting the people's address from his boss so I can send the kids a gift card or something. If they're rewarded for their great humanity early on maybe it will stick with them through life when temptations come a knocking.
