When I was in Denver in August I visited some amazing restaurants with some of the best food and atmosphere that I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Now I am finding the local haunts pretty boring. What are some places in Buffalo and Rochester with an Artsy atmosphere and a modern menu? Thanks in advance for any help.

Denver is an amazing place for sure! Its hip, laid back, artsy and the rockies for a backdrop are simply amazing! I was also in Colorado Springs and Golden(stayed in Castle Rock) Colorado in general is fantastic. If I were able to pack up and move I would without thinking twice.

same here dude, paramount has the best bison and elk burgers, not to mention people where so chill and laid back, i went for a conference. I know shangos on mainstreet buffalo by ub south has really good cajun kinda food. They have this lobster mac and cheese, pretty good, but the place is a little pricey. I havent found a good burger place in buffalo, i know grovers is good, but too greasy and fatty imo (even though they claim 90% beef)

Restaurant Good Luck is my favorite restaurant in Rochester! The food is served family style so you get to try a lot of different dishes. The food is great! It is modern and gourmet at a reasonable price. The atmosphere is very laid back. Thursday night there is no corkage fee if you want to bring your own bottle of wine in. You have to try it, you won't be disappointed.

Best burger in Buffalo comes from the Sterling tavern. Second Shango. Left Bank is consistently excellent. Google Bill Rappaport's restaurant guide for reviews of Buffalo restaurants.

A good burger isn't really what Im after. Although I appreciate them Im looking to quell my foodie/snobbish palette when I feel the urge. Also Im looking for nice places for my girl and I to escape the So.Tier and if we're going to make the 3 hour round trip we want it to be sort of special.

Another good option in Rochester is 2Vine in Rochester. This used to be my favorite before I discovered Good Luck.

You could hit 2Vine for lunch, drive around to all the reef shops and then Good Luck for dinner. Man what a day that would be!

Personally 2vine ok, but personally I think it hyped to much. I know there a premium price on good food, atmosphere and the experience but $280 for two people(appetizer, dessert, a few drinks and a half a WAY overpriced bottle of wine) turned me off from going back.

Then again I am not one for Artsy atmosphere and a modern menu, so YMMV.

hehe I was expecting to see a thread about ...

denver is cool. 80% of colorado's population lives less than a hundred miles apart. you'd better like it if you live in colorado. otherwise it's albuquerque (8hrs away) (vegas 14 hrs) i'd tried living in colorado, it's not the east coast for sure.

There is a coincidence to all of the Rochester restaurant comments. The Chef who I worked for at 2Vine in 2001 is the same person who was the opening chef at the Canandaigua Wine and Culinary Center and is currently the chef/owner of Good Luck. Great guy, Great chef! I was the chef of the Pomodoro Grill from 2004-2010, but gave that up to have normal hours working for Wegmans. If I was still there, I'd tell you to go there! My food is edgy and delicious. I try to push the envelope. But, I'm not there, so it's probably not that good anymore :o

Funny we said when we were at Pomodoro last(this summer) we thought the food had changed.

Very cool, I did not know the history there! Too bad you weren't still at Pomodoro Grill. We could have all stopped by for a culinary outing :) But, I totally understand the hours. I don't know how chefs manage family and profession at the same time.

Anyone ever been to Lento in Rochester? I have heard it is good, but haven't been there yet.
