I want to get a good inexspensive GPS for my truck and just wondering if anyone can recommend anything ? I looked on ebay and there is a ton of different ones ?? Thanks for the help.

features and the gps chip technology they use mainly. then, as always, the name that they put on it.

So the cheaper ones are fine and no need to spend a bunch since they are all going to get you to the same place right ??
I feel like Justin ,asking all these ?'s :D

Not a problem.

If you're just using this to get from point A to point B, I don't see any need to spend $500 on the thing. The more expensive one's will only be better in cities downtown IMO. (The tall buildings make satellite location difficult for the GPS). I'm assuming you'd use this when you drive to a lake or go out somewhere with the 4-wheeler.

Now that we got this settled, who wants to write an executive summary on Google for me?

I thought this whole thread was you wanting to buy GSP. Need to lay off the booze

Odd, I don't know another Justin on the boards??? :D

garmin is good... but TomTom is better LOL no kidding... they're both great companies. I have owned both, but they are probably the only two names I would buy out there on the market

The biggest difference in varying priced units is definitly features, on say the TomTom One (249.99) VS. the TomTom 720 (499.99) the difference is mainly text to speech, this is where it speaks the street name instead of just telling you to turn left in a hundred yards. There is other smaller features like more space and more custimization/personalization of the unit.

The big thing to know is make sure you get a unit with SirfIII chipset so you can always get a signal and you should be fine.

All the TomTom's from top to bottom have it in them, which allows all of them to get the same signal strength.

The only other big thing would be who they get there maps from, but most of the big names use TeleAtlas these days, so there shouldn't be much worry about that!

Any other questions you can pm or post

and I'm in the store all the time, I'll let you play around with the 720 if I see you in there.

What does lay off entail, I just don't think you would be the same Justin!

Do they still make car navigation systems with SirfII? I thought that was gone by now.

But at the same time, SirfIII is only going to be noticable in areas of high overhead coverage. On an open road, SirfII and SirfIII will have negligible differences.

scubabill yeah but you almost have to go to a marine shop to find them for that purpose.

JXmetal they don't use SirfStarII anymore but there is other big competition out there like global locate chip and hammer head. a few others as well but like i said most of the big names use SirfStarIII these days

Thanks for the help, will probably just look for an inexspensive tom tom, do most of them come with brackets or suction cups, etc ? Is there anything needed seperatly ?

Dude, you're in the SW Business!!! You know the drill. No suction cups or brackets. Super Glue :D

oh yeah good point guess I will just glue it to my dash and carry some xtra glue incase I want to take it out and use it in another vehicle. Thanks Justin, I dont know what i was thinking !

yeah they all come with mounts, and there shouldn't be anything you need except what comes in the box!

And if you can wait a little while there are two big specials coming up in November and December , there are doing the tomtom coupon coupon sale again where it will be 50 dollars instant off and 50 dollar mail in rebate.

But keep that hush hush (as I write this on a public forum LOL)
