Hey everyone ...

Thanks for checkin out my post. I need some advice

I'm comin out to Orlando this weekend and Saturday night I have a party of 7 people with me and it's my 30th Bday. Were gonna go out for some dinner about 830 and then we want to hit a bar or something ....

now I don't really want a big club with loud music and a crowd of sweaty people pushin and shovin to get to the bar, but yet I don't want to go to a little local pub and be bored outta my mind either ya know!

I've looked at the place called Sky60, looks a little appealing. Outdoors rooftop bar, looks pretty chill but it's hard to guage from reviews on the internet.

Can ya help me out with some suggestions. I'd really appreciate it!!

Thanks
JeRmZ (from Tampa)

Never heard of Sky60. The only thing that I can think of would be Latitudes, but it can get pretty crowded. Almost anywhere downtown would be crowded, school it out.

sky60 is usually pretty dead. wall street is usually pretty good its kinda like a street party with the cover you get admission to like 5 or 6 bars. ember is a must though in my opinion. its a big place but more of a chill vibe with inside and outside bars.

blue martini is good if you like an order snooty crowd with $15 dollar martini's...but really hot staff and other ladies (mostly gold digger types)

sky60 is an expensive scenster bar. People trying to impress other people by spending way too much on drinks.

In that same block next door, downstairs, and across the street, is I bar, Barbecue bar, The Social, Tabu, Lizzy McCormicks, the Lodge, the wall street bars (4-5 of them) Most are no cover. Social is a live venue. Some of those have free live music. Park in the parking garage right behind where sky 60 is. Its only $5, entrance on Washington street and you are right in the middle of all that.

+1 Wall St.
+1 Ember

-1 spending $100 for 5 drinks at blue martini
-1 overcrowded cramped clubs on church st (Latitudes, Mako's, Dragon Room, Antigua)

I am personally not a big fan of wallstreet. Sky 60 is definitely pretty dead. I usually hit up bar b q bar. Its definitely a bit scene but the older scene crowd. If you go out the back door of bbq there is ispy which is somewhat outside and has a large dancefloor where they play good music. Neither bar charges a cover and has pretty good drink prices. The good news is that downtown is pretty close together so if somewhere is dead you can go less than a block and find 10 different bars that might work out better.

Right on everyone .... thanks for all the suggestions.

So it sounds like the best thing is going downtown probably.

We have a Blue Martini here in Tampa and I don't really like it all that much, too expensive and not my type crowd, at least not here in Tampa.

I really wanted to check out Icebar and Fire Lounge but there were no reservations available at the time I wanted to go.

The Independent bar, from the reviews I read is definitely not my style, 80's new wave/Indy. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm into Hip Hop, Mashups, House, Chill Vibe type stuff.

Check out Citywalk.....it can be crowded and annoying at times but it has a nice mix of people and things to see. You can even drink on the streets inside there. I like to go and have a few drinks and just sit on the benches outside the bars/club/restaurants/ and just people watch!

Thanks Mr. Harvard ... we actually thought about that because were going to Emeril's Tchoup Chop in the Royal Pacific hotel for dinner and I've heard they have a ferry that takes you across to City Walk ....

We may end up just doing that because it will save driving from the Universal area back to downtown and then back to our hotel. I have a Designated driver so I'm gonna get smashed for my 30th .... but even so ... driving IN a car while drunk is not all that fun!! LOL

I think you will be happy with that decision. I dont get over there that much anymore but when I do I always enjoy myself! Check out the outside part of the Irish pub (I cant remember the name) but its pretty laid back. Also make sure you make it to Margaritaville they useually have some pretty good bands playing there. Its not very nice to your wallet but its a fun time!

The good thing is ...

It's my Birthday so I aint paying for nothin!!! It'll hurt everyone elses wallet. I usually drink beer when I go out, but I think I'm gonna go for some top shelf liquor this weekend ... again ... I'm not paying!!!

Mojito's all night!!! WooooooooT

couple advil and a bottle of water before I pass out and I'm good.

and the wife is talking about getting up early to go to a Waterpark ... everyone wants to go to Aquatica on Sunday! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Wake me up when you get back!

Margaritiville has good bands but it is a restaurant with over priced mediocre food.I was there 3 weeks ago and ordered the jerk salmon and the blackbeans they served me looked like they opened then form a can and cooked the cr## out of them.(discusting)I dont think that the prices are cheaper the the Blue Martini as house cabernet was 8.50 and Margaritas where 12.00.Thats more then the Blue Martini.Anyone that drinks martinis knows that the going rate is between 8 and 20.00.Due to the amount of alcohol thats in one.So the Blue Martini is priced in line with other lounges. The scene will be much better at the Blue Martini with no rift raft.My wife loves going especially with a group of friends. The one in Ft Lauderdale is probably a bit busier then the Orlando one.Lately the wife and I have been enjoying Raglen Rd at Downtown Disney. Its the nicest Pub Ive been to and the Irish food is awesome. But it's more of date nite then a go crazy and make a scene place.

I would say hit up "EMBER"

I went there last weekend for my friends 30th...What a classy nice chil bar place...However the drinks are very reasonable...beers like 2 bucks or something and mix drinks were cheap too...good stuff!

no dancing really just a half outdoor indoor bar / restaurant that plays music... It is located by Church street area...next to I4 Downtown...
