Illinois’ Combatives Team Represents Well Again! 2nd Place at All-Armed Forces Tournamentþ

The Illinois Army National Guard Combatives Team Placed 2nd at this years Armed Forces Pankration Invitational held at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendelton, on May 17th. The Team took just five members to this event however, four placed in the tournament. The competitors consisted of predominantly Marines however; Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel were also represented in the tournament. The Marine Corps sponsored event followed Amature Pankration League rules which allows takedowns, submissions, and strikes (punches, kicks, knees, and forearms) below the collar bone both standing and on the ground.



Open Division:

1st Place, Welterweight (175lbs): SSG Nicholas Grant, A Co 2/130 INF (West Frankfort)

3rd Place, Lightweight (160lbs): SPC Adam Therriault, A Co 33rd BSTB (Marseilles)



Beginner Division:

2nd Place, Welterweight (175 lbs): MAJ Jeffery Jiannoni, 65th BDE(Springfield)

3rd Place, Middleweight (190 lbs): SGT Bernard Dickneite, A Co 2/130 INF (West Frankfort)
 
NICE job been there couple of times. i am SGT CARTER USMC. DISABLE VET. GOOD JOB. and no i dont know were privit Pyle is ! LOL

It was a fun tourney and San Diego is awesome. Although not being able to hit guys in the head was a little weird. Particularly, for the guy who got disqualified for dropping me with a straight right cross to the chin. That hurt a bit :) With head strikes being illegal in this particular tournament everyone concentrated on defending the body, left me completely defenseless when he clocked me.

I wish I had pics to share but after the competition my camera got stolen at the beach. :mad:
 
Sucks about your camera. I bet the guy taking it had no idea how much you could kick his a** if you caught him!

Nope, it was about 90% Marines, and there were several that were none too happy about a National Guard Team taking 2nd with only about half a roster filled. Most of the guys were cool though.
