I have a sony 36xbr400 tv that stopped working tonight. No picture just a red blinking light on the tvs front. This happened once before a few weeks ago but a simply unplug and plug back in worked wonders. Not this time.

Its 6 years old and its sony's first hdtv...err well not really since its 4:3 but it does do the high resolution of 1080I.

Anyone here work on them or know of someone who worked on them. I dont want to spend much on this set repairing it since its not a new thin tv. Yea I had my eye on one of these for a while. Just dont have the cash. I really need a second job to pay for the hobbies.

Anyone here work on them? Know who to call and what it costs for service?

i had a panasonic hd tv that would do the same thing. If unpluging it wouldn't work. I would hold down the power button on it for 8 seconds the red light would go off then just restart it. just like cheap switching power supplies on computers.

Tried that. Did the unplug thing for an hour and the power button is a hard button. Holding it in does nothing.

Ninjamini needs a technician.

We had an early 4:3 HD model as well. It was a 32" Toshiba. It started acting up earlier this year, just 1 week before the service plan from Best Buy expired. They couldn't locate a replacement picture tube for it, being an oddball 4:3 hd CRT. So, they gave us a $1200 credit (the original purchase price) to go shopping for a new one. Sometimes you get lucky, I guess! We put that towards a 56" samsung (16:9, 1080p) and never looked back. :D

I'd recommend craigslist if you don't want to buy a new one outright. Plenty of deals to be had as people upgrade their projectors for the latest LCDs and Plasmas.

Thanx. After some research and a few google searches later it turns out that I have a well known issue with my model. Fixing it would cost between $200 if I feel like putting a circuit board in my self and $500 if I get someone to do it. Since the tv is worth like $400-500 anyway looks like i am going to sell it for parts. It always seems to happen at the worst time.

Well my wife said that we can putt the 27" from the bedroom down to the living room. Looks like I need to find a second job. Anyone hiring? I am a training and a hell of a sales man.
