OT- need recommendation on fishing!~)

for local I have had pretty good luck in tomales bay( sp?)
aslo really good for catching sharks and rays... they are not really keepers, but damn they are fun( read as work out) to catch.

if you want big halibet you need to go up north..

they have soo many charter boats around the sf bay and berkeley.. I heard the Goldeneye was a really good boat. You might want to also check out www.sfchronicles.com in the sports section, they have fishing updates on Thursdays and you might be able to get more info on party boats.

I see a lot of halibut fishing guys at Dillon Beach. We will be down there this weekend with the boat, crabbin'. yum. My husband is up in Oregon now finding out about trips out of Newport. They are only having two open seasons this year, one in May and one in June. If they don't max out their limit they will open another.
So, we should all do a trip down to Dillon, abalone, crab, halibut, oysters, clams....

I go clamming and crabbing every year at dillons beach on new years-excellent crabbing and clamming but not sure about the fishing.

Has the crabing at lawsonslanding improved at all in the past years? My dad and I use to go claming and crabing all the time there when I was a kid...there's nothing like being so far down a mud hole someone else has to pull you out by your feet... But once the enterance to the bay siltted over and they stoped running the salmon charters off the pier the crabing whent down hill big time. We use to be able to limit on Dungeness crab in a couple of hours. The last time I was there about 5 years ago the crabing sucked...all day crabing off the pier and the only thing we could catch were rock crab :( ....

We do really well with the boat, never crabbed off the pier. That would suck. We get mostly rock crab, some dungeness. We (my husband and any gullable camp buddies) run the boat up and down the Pt. Reyes side of the bay across from the landing, Setting down 4-5 traps and picking up on the next run. I start up the turykey fryer full of water with spices and beer when they call in from the last run. We usually feed 10-12 hungry campers. Yum. got crabs?
