OT: Online Computer Games

Anyone play any online computer games?

I currently only play Guild Wars online and was wondering if anyone plays any other games online.

There has to be a few of you geeks out there :>

Be proud of your geekdom.

Prior to GW I played World of Warcraft, Dark age of Camelot, and Everquest.

But now I only have time to sit down for an occassional PvP match in GW.

I gave them up, but used to play Everquest for several years as a cleric on Prexus, and then a Shaman in WoW on Thunderlord.. with many assorted toons in there also.

I still mess around with Diablo 2 from time to time and strategy games like Rise of Nations/Legends and stuff.

The other ones just take up so much time, that and I started going to the gym again.. and thought online games kind of competed with that.

I am, however, still proud of my geekdom :)

I used to play EverQuest (Shaman on Xegony) and I used to play quite a few FPS games (Counter-Strike, Unreal Tourney, Battlefield 2, etc).

However, I've tried to limit myelf to just WoW these days... I've got a 60 Mage on Icecrown, a 60 Hunter on Azgalor and numberous lowbies on various servers.

I play BF2 at times.
My 13yr old son is addicted to it and I had bought him the new Bf 2142 for Christmas but one of his online buddies sent him a copy for free.. The guy felt bad for him since the group he played BF2 online moved up to the new game and he wasn't able to yet. I thought it was pretty cool for someone he's never met to spend $65 on him but my girlfriend seems to think the guy is up to more than that?
I was around when Pong first came out first, then atari and so on...I never would have believed my son would be able to play against people from all over the world realtime and be able to talk to them at the same time. I can't even imagine what gaming will be like in another 15-20 years. 3-D playing would be pretty cool !

HELL YEAH...... BF2 all the way. BTW anyone wanting to play on our server join us anytime.

IP Address: 8.9.11.172

btw we have a website also but its not allowed to be posted here on reefcentral.

To give you an idea of our geekdom

5 desktops (all able to play ANY game at rather high settings) all have a minimal of PIV 3.0ghz, 2 gigs of ram, 256mb vid cards

and we have

2 laptops (one Alienware SLI m9700 :) gaming )

and a dell thats not for gaming.

And whole house networked etc etc we have lan gaming here :)

I had a 63 druid on Lany's in Everquest a couple of years ago.

I then went to starwars and was a top weaponsmith on my server....
I ended up bored and rich in the game and quit...I retired with over 900 million credits which I gave to friends, guild etc

no games in the last year or so...although I have thought of trying EQ again but grinding levels takes so much time.....guess I could macro my way through a lot of it if I wanted to.

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9300, modded bios to accept the 7800 GTX video card.. My 9300 thinks it's an XPS! The best part of the upgrade is that it was free after selling the 6800 go that came with it.

thugmebaby what is your player id on BF2?
Mine is "Dudd" and I use the prefix "Elmer" so watch it or you just might get whacked by "Elmer Dudd":D

I played EQ for a while, moved on to FFXI and then WOW for a while. But, after I had my 2nd kid i didnt have much time for the MMO's anymore. Mostly play single player games these days.

Hey John, did you notice a big difference when you upgraded your card to the 7800? I have a 9300 and its starting to chug on some of the newer games. Im wondering if upgrading the card would be worth it.

Yes, It was a huge improvement but finding a card is going to be tuff, Dell isn't selling them any longer and the few I see on e-bay from time to time are going pretty high.
If I remember right I was getting a score of 3700 when overclocking the 6800go on 3DMark05, The 780GTX score was 5600 with no overclock and as high 7000 overclocked.
One thing that helped me when I was running the 6800go was a program called Notebook Hardware Control. It allows you to set the processor to Max Performance at all times.
With games like BF2 the processor steps up underload and then down again when the processor isn't being used as much...This stepping up and down causes your game to run jittery, almost like a connection lag.
It made BF2 run really smooth even with the 6800go.

What card do you have? if it's the 6800go it's a pretty good card just lacking some of the eye candy you get with the 7800GTX.

Yeah I have the 6800go. Ive had it for almost 2 years now, so I just think its showing its age.

I was wondering why the performance was great sometimes and just mediocre at other times. Thanks for the tip, Ill give that program a try.

DSMpunk if you run the program set the CPU speed to Max.Performance and the Hard drive to Loud (254) and Max.Performance(254)

I played the old Lineage and Lineage 2 MMORPG. Then I moved to WOW for about a year or so....that game is the biggest timesink in the world! Before RPGs I played BF1942 and desert Combat mod....OMG that was fun! Right now I don't play much of them...I am waiting for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes to come out. Looks like it'll be better than WOW.

I got kinda lucky with my laptop video card....well unlucky and lucky at the same time. Alienware had my laptop forever and then backordered the part after almost a month and a half in service. They finally called and said they would upgrade my MB and video card to the 7800 GTX for free. But man I would rather buy a Mac than get another Alienware.

Only thing I played on my PC was Halo.

Now everything I play online is through the Xbox360. Huge into Gears of War right now.

I used to be on several computer forums, Unless something has changed in the last few months then the Dell Bios is locked tight.
I had to run a modded Dell Bios to trick my laptop into thinking it was an XPS but then again it was a Dell Bios and the 9300 used the same motherboard as the XPS minus some LED connectors.
