OT: Plumbing Question

So I want to install a utility sink in my basement. This isn't completely OT since it's to make my fish tank maintenance easier!

Below is a pic of the current set up. I apologize in advance if my terms are wrong. My washing machine drain is tied in thru that bottom Sanitary Tee. Can I simply replace that with a double Sanitary Tee and tie into the drain that way? That almost seems to easy so that is why I'm asking for some experts.

You can do that or add another tee above the existing tee. Laundry tub drains should be roughed in around 15'' off the floor.

Yep, you can tap into the drain any way you want, as long as it's flowing down-hill. You should also have a 'p' trap under the sink to seal in the drain gasses.

What all do you have draining into the pit? That is a dump pump right boat an ejector? If its a sump remember that goes into the ground and will not pass an inspection if needed anytime down the road.

Do not use a cross fitting (double Sanitary tee) the pressure from the washer drain can cause part of the water to back up into you sink . You need to cut in two tees one at around 16" from the floor and one at 42'' from the floor for a vent. If the sink drain is less then a foot you do not have to put in a vent pipe. the vent pipe is there to help the water drain faster. If you are dumping salt water down the drain make sure your run fresh water until the pump pumps out all the water out of the pit a few time or the salt will eat your pump and will have to replace it

I miss read a little of what you put there.

Your answer is no.
Stack a t on top of the t for the laundry box drain. Nano is correct in putting that t at 15" center off the floor. That will work for every laundy tub. As for venting the having to put a revent in the drain for the laundry tub, as long as the piece of 1 1/2 pipe is not over 2' you will be good. Otherwise just put a t in on the horizontal drain for the slop sink and tie it in with the existing vent pipe.

The disharge on this pit goes to a 4" pipe, so i would assume that is the main...I have another pump on the other side of the basement that disharges outside the house.

Regarding the vent, the drain is the vent as well? Does it work that way? From what I can tell nothing drains into that pipe from above, but the pipe does extend up thru the ceiling. It is safe to assume that goes out the roof and it's the vent?

Yes, the side you are using as a drain is also your vent. The only thing that drains down a vent is rain water from roof stack.

Ok THANKS for the help! Putting in another tee should actually be easier then the double would have been as long as the height is correct, I'll have to measure that tonight.

Does the drain that is already on the bottom have a minimum height requirement that it has to be off from the floor?

If to high then go below the other t. Do not put a cross. If you need a cross then put a double wye
