OT - Question about IPHONE

I just cracked my glass screen on my old 2G Iphone so it's time to get a 3G. I've heard that there is a new Iphone coming out this summer with a new download that will allow for text forwarding and picture messaging. Anyone here have any information on the new Iphones that may or may not be coming out? I want to get one now but am considering waiting if there indeed is a newer version coming out soon.

While a new phone will likely be introduced this summer, those features are part of the 3.0 software upgrade. The upgrade will be free and give you all of those features on the 3G.

i cant wait for my 2 year contract to end with T-mobile this September so i can get a Iphone. i guess ill be just in time. I hate carrying my phone in one pocket and my 80g ipod in the other.

savethereef, I'd suggest your get one from Craigslist, unlock it and jailbreak it to use on T-mobile. The data package on AT&T is $30 (mandatory) and the plans are expensive. I'm picking up a 16gb one for $500. I know that's a lot up front but in the end I'll save more money by saving on the plans.

Right now I'm paying $70 for unlimited texting and 3000 minutes on T-mobile (this includes $5.99 data plan). Comparable plan for me on AT&T would run $150 a month for me ($99 unlimited calls, $30 data, and $20 unlimited text).

The only downside to using T-mobile is that you can't use 3G but instead have to use Edge. I've tried both and the speed isn't significant enough for the price difference.

can you elaborate on the unlock and jailbreak? Is there specific software to buy and how tough is it? Thanks.

Go on to craigslist, search for iPhone and you will find a lot of people who will do it for you. Average price is $20 or $25. Its worth it because doing it yourself can be complicated.

Just get the 3g. If you DO NOT get at&t do not look forward to phone and program/sw update in which many case ARE VERY IMPORTANT. True if you go and unlock and go through Tmobile you might save a little cash BUT what Mike up above is failing to tell you is that when the rest of the world who is on the proper network gets these cool updates Tmobile customers do not get them. But to be honest, it would be nice to save a bit on my monthly bill. $120 a month is rape

ktrandc,

You can expect a new iPhone in June. Version 3.0 of the software is a free update to all iPhone users and $9.99 for iPod Touch users. There really isn't any reason to jailbreak anymore as the new version of iPhone software will allow most of the things that were only available on jailbroken phones such as tethering your phone to your computer to use it as a modem.

If you can still use your 2G iPhone I would wait until June at this point as it is rumored that the new phones will have a faster processor, more memory, a better camera and who knows what else.

I'm an iPhone developer and I can tell you without breaking the NDA that the new OS is awesome.

This is what I am hoping to do soon as my Sprint contract is up and I'm tired of my Treo. I may even skip the data plan due to my limited finances and hope to have Wifi service whenever I need the internet. I actually know someone selling a 8gb 3g for $250 in very good condition. He took it away from his son because he cannot keep his grades up and have been telling little lies here and there. The only issue is that it is still under contract, so I have no idea if I will take on the penalty when I try to activate the phone under my name. Would that even be an issue if I plan on unlocking/jail breaking it to use on T-Mobile?

Fantastic! Thank you for that information. Faster processor and better camera makes waiting a lot easier.

In regards to not having the latest software or updates because I have an unlocked phone is absolutely not true. I have friends who have the most up to date software on their 2g (2.2 or whatever it is right now). You can still use the app store on these unlocked phones. There is always a crack for these software and updates. You might have to wait 3-4 weeks for them but they eventually do come out. In the end, the savings I'd end up with is well worth the 3-4 week wait.

Ok, first you can buy a brand new 8gig iPhone for $199 the 16gig is $299. Second, you can't skip the data plan if you go with AT&T. Third, you don't need to pay someone to jailbreak/unlock the phone for you it isn't that hard to do and there are tons of tutorials and videos etc.. I don't suggest jailbreaking and unlocking but that is up to you. I don't know about taking over someone else's phone that is still under contract but as I said you don't need to as the 8gig is $199.

I am well aware of the $199/$299 price but that requires a 2-year contract with AT&T, which is something I do not want to do at the moment. My ideal situation is to score an iPhone free and clear of any contracts and unlock/jailbreak it to use on T-Mobile. I would never buy an used iPhone that still is tied to an AT&T contract for more than what AT&T is offering. AT&T is actually selling refurbished 8gb iPhones for $99 with a 2-year contract.

The downside of buying the iphone through apple or at&t is that there is a minimum 2 year contract AND the data package is mandatory. That's $30 a month for 24 months.

I have the iPhone and have the family plan, each additional iPhone line is 50 bux including unlimited texts and unlimited Internet use. IMO this is just fine. I don't really use my phone much durring the week before 9pm; you also can call anyone on the plan w/o using anytime. And you gotta love those old roll over mins. I'm happy with keeping my phone on AT&T. Now back to work...

T mobile is offering unlimited minutes to certain people for 50 bucks a month. It was offered to my mom and i'm thinking about getting on her plan so i can have the same deal. I currently have att, but can no justify spending $100 a month for the iphone and only 750 minutes.

Unlimited minutes for $50 a month? Wow!!

You must have been with them for i think 22 months so they are getting people to renew their contract for another 2 years. If you have tmobile you should call see if you qualify I'm really thinking of changing over.

man i just went over to the Att page. There is no way to get a family plan with two Iphone. It said only one iphone per household
