OT: RC cars/boats/planes

see thats the thing If I'm going to be spending 300 bucks I except at the least something I can mess with already, I don't want to dump 300 then still have to buy stuff, I'm working on college money here, wine on a beer budget.

Well I'm looking at an Xray T2 with a novak gtb 5.5 brushless sytem with novak xxl receiver and futaba 2peka fm radio 3300 smc matched battery pack with a a/c wall charger for around 300. Seems like a great deal to me so far, I'll have to get a weaker motor for while I learn how to handle the car but its basically everything I want in my car except for a spektrum and the radio seems good enough.

ok I finally purchased a car, I got what I think is a good deal although some of the electronics are a bit older. I have a X-Ray T2 with what appears to be very little use, with a Novak XXL receiver, Futuba 2peka transmitter, JR racing servo, and a GTB 5.5 Brushless system. I just went out and got a Vision Peak Ultra charger to charge my cells, and got a 6 cell promatch green, well I think its the green its not the blue. Other than that I have no clue what I have, I believe its currently set up for carpet as the previous owner mentioned racing it on carpet and it looks to be pretty low to the ground but then at this point 3mm and 7mm would both look pretty low to the ground to me, obviously I haven't got any fancy measuring tools and haven't cracked out my old high school ruler. I'm pretty pumped despite having now spent around 500 bucks and not even turned the thing on yet, I guess the next step is setting it up for asphalt on-road, does anyone have a set-up sheet or know of a good one, one of the guys at the hobby shop mentioned looking for the setup sheet for david travis, my guess is I spelled it wrong because I haven't turned up anything yet, here are some pictures.

I appologize that half the pictures suck, if you want/need a better picture of something to see what I have going on let me know. Is there any trick to seeing how many teeth your spur and pinion have on them, or am I stuck trying to count the teeth? Any help, thoughts, opinions, and even destructive critisism is welcome, I could use a laugh, and some help.

Nice Car!

I'm into RC boats and inexpensive planes (for now) and have a cheap 4WD RC truck. They are the best thing when the grand kids come over.......instant baby sitter

I agree with the earlier posts on batteries Li batts are the way to go. But they do require special handling - things get real nasty if you over heat them.

I'm drawing a blank right now but I think I got most of my stuff online from Tower Hobby or Hobbylobby. I can't remember for sure if it's Graves but there is a good store on N. OBT.
The people there were great - very helpful and the prices weren't sky high.

Good luck with you new toy!

Nice rig, that is a great car. You could be competitive with that car right now, assuming you could keep it off the wall ..lol

The electronics aren't old at all, at least not the ESC or motor. Once you get that thing out there you will see it is EXTREMELY fast. Smart move to go brushless. I would look on X-rays website for a set up sheet, you can also check out of the message boards.

Looks like all you need now are some tires. You can run the ones on it but eventually will want to have slicks, they usually run about $40 a set.

GL and Have Fun!

well I had a small problem, was running the car and I let off the throttle/trigger thing and the car took off like a rocket just completely lost control, so I have some problem with either the transmittor or receiver, other than that the car is scary fast, only problem with buying a car like this is I have no idea what there is to tune or how to tune it or what changing one thing does to the drivability/acceleration of the car and I'm so far not having much luck finding an RC hobby for dumbasses website/book.

ok I found a setup sheet that I think I will be using but I have run into a problem, I don't have a setup board/system deally, so here is where I beg and pleed, do any of you have a setup board/system thing and are willing to either help me setup my car or let me borrow them so I can setup my car?

The setup I found is just a little odd, it has soft shocks, really soft shocks which I'm not sure why you would use for onroad as traction shouldn't be a problem since you aren't hitting bumps and stuff. Here is the sheet I plan on copying, only one I could find for anywhere near the area. http://forum.teamxray.com/xform/index.php?act=view&ID=711&setup=t2

Sorry no setup board here. Whenever I was at the track, someone always let me borrow one. Got by using a decent caliper.

The springs are only 'relative' soft. It's a 17lb spring on what, a 3-4lb car? As where you're street car has maybe 200-400lb spring on a 3000-4000lb car.
