OT: Roethlisberger better than Warner?

Black and Yellow blinders...

unless you had a different camera angle than my station shot, I watched it again and the ref that threw the flag threw it right as the guy who was held was being tackled to the ground and he was looking in that direction.

With all this talk of referee I'm surprised no one brought up the last play the Cards had... I mean argue all you want whether it was a fumble or a forward pass, when that is moving in real time it is in ZERO way obvious, it's the superbowl, this could potentially give another team a shot at winning... but yeah lets not review the play because we want to get home.

Can you say OBAMA? C'mon clearly he said he was rooting for the STEELERS... Its all political!

No but really. I don't think the officiating crew wanted to open up a can of worms of controversy. So they kept it at that. I do agree however to get that last played reviewed because it was definitely not a fumble.

Mike, hate to argue a mute point but I just pulled it up on DVR and he did look back at the pass FIRST, then turn around and threw the flag.

I'll admit I believe the last play was not a fumble but we didn't get to see a thorough review. I think the key here is that it is possible with 7 seconds left and 44 yards to go it may be possible but this call in no way directly affected the game.

Well Warner definitely did not lose the game for the team. They were able to come back as a team. They lost it with the dumb penalties... Which in fact kept drives going not BEN.
OK, the team was able to comeback but they would have won if Warner had not thrown that pick. Now, maybe something else could have happened but give AZ +10 and it's their game.
Name a penalty that helped Ben or "kept the drive going"?

Well I did look at the DVR too before I made the comment, and I looked at it again. Now I'll admit that when they had the "whole field" view when it was happening it looked like the ref's head turned back to watch. However right after when they show the slow mo replay of just the line of scrimmage where the hold occur, you see Roeth throwing it and when the ball is just beyond the line of scrimmage you see the ref's head come into frame and he's staring right at the hold area, and the ball was not even half way to Holmes yet. Which seems to contradict what the other view showed, which I attribute to either a fast moving camera with blur that looks like a turned head or that was a completely different referee.

If i could pull the video from my DVR I would... but I can't. So yeah... moot point ;)

Don't forget though there was a 15 yard unsportsman penalty that would have been assessed if they overturned the fumble call which would have made a shot at the end zone quite a bit more feasible. Now I didn't care too much who won in reality, but I would have much rather seen the game end with a last shot at the endzone (or the lateral flip play) than a botched referee call and the Steelers just hiking the ball and everyone in the room at the party I was at was silent like "*** just happened".

In no way guaranteed a Cardinal victory, however it did put a nail in the coffin and made it impossible for them to get a shot at winning.

How about the penalty BEFORE the change of possesion during the punt? From what I remember if a penalty happens BEFORE a penalty shouldn't it be the team with the possesion of the ball that gets the penalty? So the Harrison call should in fact give the Cards back the ball including the yards? I don't know... Just throwing it out there. It's just a way to keep you watching the best sport ever for the coming year. Great game, GREAT SAFETY! and..... GO NINERS

Agreed...that last play should have been reviewed. Not sure why you wouldnt, considering the magnitude of the call and its implications. That play gets reviewed all the time during the regular season and its one of the most difficult calls to make in the game without a review. Im no conspiracy theorist but you've got to wonder. Look at this thing objectively. You've got a questionable fumble, youre in the Superbowl, it occurs on potentially the last play of the game and that game is within reach (theoretically) if the call is overturned. What good reason would you have for NOT taking another look? Takes a couple minutes and you go home sleeping a tad better knowing that the winning team "deserved" it and that the losing team was given a fair shot. Just doesnt make any sense to me.

At this point, ill agree to disagree :) This was a tough comparison from the beginning and im sure some of us continued to argue because it was fun ;) I think both QBs are probably first round hall of famers and both have had great careers. All things equal, I would prefer a versatile QB that can do a little bit of everything well vs. a QB that can pass VERY well but cant do other things that well. Not to say that one is better than the other but just how I would like to see my team be built.

Great discussion on both sides. Until the next SB or until the next sports controversy or until the next time Dyngoe decides to stir the pot :)

You know what. That was what we were stirring about all day in the office. But hey, it's football. It's what makes people watch. Think of your favorite episodes, if it was plain vanilla w/no controversy the demand would not be so great. But then again..... what if......

OK, I'm going to agree with Solitaryensis again on three points:
1. I've fully enjoyed this discussion and I'm fine with agreeing to disagree.
2. I would prefer to have Roethlisberger on my team. Yes, I am a die hard Steelers fan, have been since 1979 at the age of five but that's not the reason.
3. Both QBs are most likely 1st round hall of fame inductees. As long as Ben stays on the path he's started, it's possible he'll be one of the greats ever. And Kurt, while not being consistent throughout his career, has has moments of excellence few QBs could rival.

I truly appreciate the debate with all of you, Especially Mike and Ben who I get to see every few months. You know I'll be hounding you both on Feb 14th. ;) It is so nice to have a civilized debate like this about sports. On ESPN and NFL.com the people are down right rude and, let's be honest, mainly uneducated. The debate here has been passionate but never impolite. I think that's a sign of the laid back attitude it takes to enjoy reefing.

So, I'll take a break from stirring up sports controversies until the NBA finals when the my Celtics will again hand LA a big can of whoop a$$. Oh wait, Bynam is out and they can't buy another Glasol. I guess we won't have any controversy then after all. There I go again. :D Perhaps we can get into it again if my Guins or Devils make it out of the East to face the Sharks for Sir Stanley's cup. Who knows, there are still sports to talk about. Oh, did I mention I'm a Yankees fan? All the love went out the building there, didn't it? And, I guess it doesn't matter I support the Kop, the All Reds, a.k.a. Liverpool. Yeah, that gets overlooked here in the states.

Thanks again all, I really enjoyed this.

Im actually hoping the Cavs make a move and pick someone up so that they can make a run. I know Michael Redds name has come up, but my nod would be for a scoring forward. I think they've got enough in their front court with Lebron, Delonte West and Mo Williams. Ben Wallace and Pavlovic just isnt cutting it. I even feel bad for Lebron at times. Ive watched him play a lot this season and if he doesnt have a big game, they just dont/cant win. Before Z came back, they had two starters (Verajao and Ben Wallace) that pretty much accounted for zero points.

Ok, im going off on a tangent. Lets start another thread on the NBA :) But BTW, if the Cavs pick someone up, Redd or Jermaine O'neal, i think theyll give Boston a run for thier money...and thats coming from a big Celtics fan :) I would like to see the east get even more competitive and if the Cavs can pick up one more player, the argument can/will be made that the top of the east is as strong, if not stronger, than the west.
