i currently have dish network but ive had them for 3 years and im on my 3rd reciver and it seems like nothing but problems so im looking to switch but un sure who im going to go with... i called ATT but they said its not available in my area. directv only has sinlge room dvrs and want $199 to add the second dvr... do i have any other options? just curious if theres anything else out there that im missing. oh yea called comcast which is who i have my internet through and they said they dont have dvr? ***

Well, I have direcTV. I was happy with them for a while, but they have been ****ing me off lately. I was thinking of switching to Dish, but I guess they are no better.

you know how you run 2 tv's off one reciever? well the 2nd tv (bedroom) doesnt work. you turn on the tv and see dishnetwork and press selct bla bla but nothing happens when you press select so i havnt had tv in the bedroom for like 3 days now. thats one of the problems ive been having and the other is if im trying to watch a show that is recording but im not watching it live (maybe 10-20mins behind) the stupid dvr keeps making it go to live tv so i have to keep rewinding to try n find my spot and it actually ruined the ending to a few of my shows! had them on the phone today and they say its $99 for a service call even tho i have the service plan. he said it would be $199 without the service plan which is bs.

these companies get you locked in at one price and six months later jack the price way up! im paying like $120 a month and dont even have a single movie channel or any other premium channel! $120 for basic cable is ridiculous IMO when i started out with dish it was under a hundred with a movie channel or 2 , all the hd channels, the sirius radio channles.. i switched from DTV to dish because of the HD package and it went up so high i cant even afford that anymore

directtv is beta testing multiroom dvr now, but you need wireless router and wireless adaptor for each receiver or run cat5 cable to the router from each box..
i have it now and it works fine..

I had DirecTV for 6 years. Always performed well except in heavy weather - signal would fade in and out. Prices kept going up so I switched to ATT U-verse. Pricing is better but I'm not sure I like it any better. You can watch -recorded- shows in any room you are hooked up in but you can only pause/rewind/FFwd live TV on the DVR set. Not quite what I understood from the salesmen/installers. There are far fewer features on the ATT vs. the DirecTV DVR such as the ability to perform complex searches and store them, the ability to do slow play and, most annoying, if you watch a recorded show and go back to the live TV, you loose all the buffered information and start from the time at which you select the station (I am told this may be a fault with the DVR but have not yet received a return call).

Good points on ATT - Faster internet (12 mbps vs. 3 mbps on DSL), more channels for less $$, ability to record multiple shows and national phone service included (with PIP caller ID on the TV). All for less $$ than I was spending before (even after the 6 and 12 month good deals going away).

Mitchwelt, DirecTV failed to tell me that was going to be available when I called them. Oh well, their bad.

lol i know this isnt true but ATT told me it wasnt available in FL! this was over the phone. i checked online and it said it wasnt available in my area aswell...

i had att uverse installed and i had it for 2 months then canceled it because the hd quality vs direct tv is terrible, directtv uses 8mb feeds for their hd and att uses 4mb i think, it really shows in high action scenes....

Who uses more than basic cable these days? Most shows are free to stream off the internet. The only reason I can see paying for TV is for live sports. Netflix is like $9 a month, and you can stream a lot of their content to a computer or console if you're into movies.

Oh well. Sorry you're having trouble Al. Maybe check out comcast for an inexpensive cable package, and with a digital tuner (or newer TV) the basic 3-4 HD channels are free (Fox, CBS, NBC, and a few others).

Good luck

if you have a directtv dvr now gointo the setup menu and their is an option to turn on multi room dvr..
everyone has it it was a download software update

On the Satellite side, we just cancelled Direct Tv... they just didn't want our service anymore. Our bill kept going up, and we've had them 8 years. We paid for a dvr, then see lots of specials about multiple dvr deals for signups. Our bill was around 149 a month. They were "nice" enough to offer a $5 off per month. Thanks for nothing, cancel us. We now have dish network. Not for nothing, and not badmouthing, but the tv guide onscreen is a royal pain with dish network, but the price makes it worthwhile somewhat.

As for AT&T uverse, we are the first clients in the neighborhood to take the plunge. Our service would drop every 2-3 minutes. We've had service guys out a dozen times. Got U-verse, same problems. My wife and I decided that we're getting it fixed once and for all. 7 (yeah, 7) service guys later within 1 weekend, and it's finally fixed. No drops. It's amazing how each guy knows only 1 thing. 1 guy computer. 1 guy inside wiring. 1 guy outside wiring to the pole. 1 guy wiring from the pole to the box. Rediculous, we were home the entire weekend. But complaining aside, we finally have service. Not fast mind you (don't believe the speeds, that's only IF it's routed through all of their lines. If it goes through even 1 low speed line, your performance is screwed. But it works. Finally.

yea dishnetwork is "worth it" in the begining. they lock you into the contract and than halfway through jack up the price on you! i guess ther all the same.... i wish i could get AT&T in my area
btw the guide and dvr and everything seemed funky at first after switch from DTV but you get used to it! lol

Comcast has dvrs but they suck [they arn't multiroom either]. Too bad you can't get uverse, its unfortunatly not available in all areas down here yet.
