OT: Sharp-shinned hawk

We had a cool little visitor today, a sharp-shinned hawk. My daughter and I got to spend a lot of time watching it and got a couple of photos:

Thanks! It was fantastic. It had no problem with me wandering to within 6 or so feet with the camera clicking away. Very cool! Then it dived into an evergreen bush full of little house finches. It must've caught one because it didn't come back out. Action shot for you:

Reminds me of my Falconry days in WA state. My sponsor had one of thses little guys along with a Coopers and a Peregrine. Nice healthy adult male in these pics!

Cool! That's something that I've always wanted to do. My old dentist was really into falconry.

Thanks! Yeah, the kiddo made her teacher load the pics onto their class computer so she could tell everyone about it. She's still talking about it.

I hope the bird's okay. It's gotten really cold around here all of a sudden.
