If you care..

I am trying to figure out my new Rebel XTi and thought I would post a few from today. These aren't of my reef, however I think some people on this forum are trying to figure out exposure levels etc..

That was my main goal today, to figure out how to expose winter snow pictures properly. The secondary goal was not to freeze to death, it's approx -20C today. I only like a handful of the ones I shot.

The urchin had 3 snails snared at one point last night.

In other news, my clown started hosting a large piece of algae on the glass today.... I really need to buy her something to live in.

the joys of photoshop. Makes an enjoyable desktop background. Ok, time to a find a good photography forum where I can babble on...

Something to keep in mind is that your camera thinks that everything that you're trying to meter is neutral gray. To get snow to expose properly, meter from the snow and then add 2 stops of exposure compensation. Basically you're telling your camera to overexpose what it thinks is the right setting.

Your snow will be white.

;)

Thanks. I was trying to meter it onto snow, and onto dark things to see the difference. Auto exposure bracketing was nice to see what range I should be in.
