OT- Steve Irwin- Dead

unbelievable

I used to love the guy, then kind of thought he was a tool, but now its still really sad for him to die so suddenly

Freak accident, he was swimming above the stingray, it threw up its barb and pierced right into Irwin's heart.

I thought a venomous snake for sure...what a ridiculous scenario

My thoughts exactly... what a freak accident. I didn't even realize you COULD be killed by a stingray.

You can die from ANYTHING impaled through your heart.

The toxins from the stingray did not even play a role in this from the severity of the wound. They said the barb was 10" !

Here is what is really bad.
From CNN
Irwin was in the area to film pieces for a show called "The Ocean's Deadliest" with Philippe Cousteau, grandson of Jacques, according to Stainton.

But weather had prevented the crew from doing work for that program, Stainton said, so Irwin decided to do some softer features for a new children's TV show he was doing with his daughter, Bindi.

They decided to do something not quite as dangerous, and ends up just as worse. :(

You may or may not have appreciated his methods, but he was an extrordinary conservationist.

Some of the things he did, and his enthusiasm might have indeed made him look like a tool, but he was also one of the bravest people and would have been the kind of person I'd have been proud to know.

I remember watching a show when they had a flood there. He and his best friend had to brave flood waters to go into a croc pen and clear a drainage gate. When they got the gate cleared Steve climbed out, followed by his friend. His friend got halfway (literally) before the croc grabbed him on the thigh and pulled him back into the very muddy floded pen. Steve Irwin did not blink an eye or hesitate one second. He was back over the fence and under the water. He managed to save his friend's life. It was amazing.

Lost a goodman and his wife and kids lost a husband and father.

Howard:(

news today is stating that the entire thing was caught on tape all the way through until shortly after he died

apparently steve pulled the barb out of himself, lost conciousness, and then died about a minute or so later

hopefully this did not do him in...

you always here that if you get impaled or punctured to just leave it in, but I wonder if that rule still applies when its in your heart

discovery network has said it is likely the footage will never be broadcast (although I think we all know that steve may have wanted it broadcast)

I heard that he once said that if he's attacked by a croc to keep the footage rolling so that others can learn from the mistake, even if it kills him

I can appriciate what he did. but I question the safety practices of a man who holds a baby near a croc. seems something bad was destined to occur.
