Yup, having been to the other big name zoos (San Antonio, San Diego), I have to say the STL zoo is the best, not to mention its FREE

Exactly, another good Zoo is the National zoo in Washington D.C. free also. The Los Angeles Zoo is quite nice and we were just at Brookfield Zoo here near us and it is quite nice also .

The Brookfield is nice (I live in downtown Chicago), but $25 a person or so! I usually just walk over to Shedd for local animal fix since Im a member
