OT: The matrix for Shaq?

I dont get this one. How do the Suns expect to keep that high energy run and gun mentality with broke down Shaq?

D'antoni will just have to expand his playbook for some half-court sets. On paper, it makes them more versatile, as they can supposedly match up better with both styles of play (like the Spurs). Shaq's health is a huge question mark. He'll give his all on the court, but conditioning and a demand for the ball will be an issue.

To me, as good as Nash is, Marion was just as integral in any success they've had over the years. He was their best (and only) defender, 1 through 5. He was their best rebounder, and about 95% of the time, was the guy at the receiving end of the fast break.

To say he was UNAPPRECIATED is an understatement!

Agreed on paper they look better. IMO they got the 2nd best O'Neal in the market, and made me wonder why they did not push for J. O'Neal. I thought they would have pushed for him more than anything. But in regards to fast breaks and such you have to figure a fast break does not mean 5 on 4 or 4 on 3. So Shaq doesn't have to hustle that much up and down the court. This allows them to push for a fast breack and bring the ball back out once the break is broken. Another bad thing is that Shaq will clog the lane for Amare, good thing is that Shaq will demand a double which will equal an open shot from Nash, Bell, or anyone else along the perimeter. We shall see what happens... Steve Kerr is really rolling the dice with this move.

BTW: People are calling the tandem of Wade and Marion the second coming of Jordan and Pippen....

I was thinking the same thing. But when I heard that it came from Pat Riley... He must really need to sell tickets if he is saying something as ludacrious (?) of a statement as that.

Everyones' trying to keep up with "Showtime". My humble opinion is that when they're right, the Lakers will be the team to beat. They will be hard for anyone to match up with. From what I've heard, Shaq's legs are shot...he's got no more lift. He was a shell of himself this year in South Beach.

Here, here John! Just wait for Bynum to get back, then Kobe will show everyone that he's just as good as MJ maybe even . . . :)

I love Kobe, but he's several rings, regular season and playoff MVPs, scoring titles, and DPOY awards away from sniffing Jordan status.

Karl, I couldn't agree with you more! One more thing Jordan is and was that Kobe will never be is great leader. As evident by this past summer.

As for the team to beat this year I don't think it will be the Lakers. There's simply not enough time from now til the post season for Gasol to feel 100% comfortable in the triangle. Especially when he's playing the 5 spot now and when Bynum comes back he's going to be forced to learn to play the 4 spot again. IMO I just don't think everything is going to fall in place for them this year. BTW i'm a huge Laker/Kobe hater and I must admit they will be very scary next year.

It really isn't going to be all that hard to adjust to the system. I know everyone says that it takes so long to learn the triangle, but we don't need him to know everything there is to know about it. Just having him out there gives the Lakers another weapon. With the front court that they will have when Bynum comes back (Odem and Gasol) WE WILL BE UNSTOPPABLE!!!

Ha! jordan and pippen that is beyong hilarious. No one will ever even be close to MJ!

LeBron is the future! He's not 100% there yet but he is already passing Jordan in the record books in multiple categories. Granted he does have a huge advantage due to skipping college.

Lebron is a Monster! He's been flat out carrying the Cavs this year taking over games in the 4th quarter but yet very unselfish when his teamates are open. He's starting to develop that killer instinct and once he improves on his mid range jumpers and post skills this guy at the end might very well take over MJ's title as the "Best Ever". If Lebron keeps it up he should be front runner for league MVP at season end.

Danny Ferry blows! All those stupid contracts are ruining any chance of getting James some help.

While LeBron is a monster, and one of my favorite players to watch in the league, Kobe is closer to MJ status than him. He's got 6 rings to win, MVP awards as well DPOY awards before you can put him in the same league as Mike (as Karl mentioned about Kobe). Kobe at least has won at the championship level.

Don't get me wrong, he "could" do it. But he has a LOOOONNNGGGG road ahead of him. The good thing is, like Kobe, he has a 5 year advantage on MJ. More time in the league means more opportunities.

As for Shaq, I am interested to see how it works out. I think Karl's first post is pretty much spot on. They'll have to open up the books and run a more half court, low post offense, but it opens up a new level of diversity in their ability. Also, as Shaq mentioned yesterday in his press conference, he will definitely make Amare a better player. More opportunities, and less pressure to defend the opposing team's center. Of course they will still miss the Matrix, as he can run the floor and shoot the J, and ALL of the upsides depend the Diesel's ability to stay healthy. All in all, I think it made the Suns stronger if Shaq can play.

Shaq cant even walk up the court:)

Lebron and Kobe will NEVER and i mean never be as good as MJ.

I miss 80's basketball! Magic, Bird and MJ. I loved watching Bird play.

I think it wasn't as bad of a trade as everyone is saying.. I mean grant hill got a couple years left at most and nash is not getting any younger though like jason kidd seems to get better with age. I think it works out best for both teams the suns will have to rebuild in a few years though with amare to build around with shouldn't be to hard. The window is closing fast just like it did with the kings but thats another story. As far as the next jordan they will never be one ever. But i think lebron will come close. Kobe is the best player right now.
