OT - Time to get a new van

Koden, the noise at the back of the interior from what my friend told me is a wind noise. He can't figure out where it is coming from. But if you google for "odyssey noise" you'll read a lot of different noise issues in this van including road, brake, abs, windshield, door, etc. I think that's the reason why honda added an Active Noise Control (ANC) technology to reduce as much noise in the van. But I think the ANC only works when you'r stereo system is on. But I think I still like the odyssey. To me the noise issues is nothing compared to what safety features you would get from this van.

I would recommend a Honda Pilot. Seats 7 and is consistantly the top SUV in almost all auto mags, and consumer guides.

Of course not all of the flexibility of a minivan... but I like it and it drives like a car..

<i>from Elite</i><br><b>So Toyota is going to release the Sienna Hyrid in 2007??.. I'm wondering how much it will cost.</b>

Article re:Sienna Hybrid - http://www.hybridcars.com/toyota-sienna-minivan-hybrid.html

I'm sure it would cost more. The Hybrid Highlander is about $7k-$9k more than the gasoline version. From what I understand, the Highlander, Sienna and Camry share the same chassis. So, I figure the Sienna Hybrid would have a comparable markup.

From what I hear and see, the Odyssey is the more popular of the two with the soccer mom's in my area. They turn in their high priced cars for them all the time.

Buy used, and with all the money you'll save, you can spend it on your reef!

Best of luck,

Roy

used cars are dangerous, for they may nickle and dime you to death for small fixes.

buy new, get it under warranty, and you're all set for 7 years ;)

you need AWD or just want it??

Do I need it... in a way, yes. We like taking trips to Tahoe hitting the snow and my son loves to snow board. I hate putting chains on tires.

awd comes in handy, but if you can't turn it off, it's a gas guzzler =(

Yes... I too have heard about the hybrid Sienna due out in 07. I too will wait till about 08 before buying that van. Though I'm not sure if Toyota will have an AWD hybrid Sienna.

hehehe if I want to keep the old car then I would just keep my van :D ..

Check out the Odyssey today. The EX-L /w NAV and DVD system is pretty nice. The price is really good too (I think :D).

tsk tsk tsk, you're the total opposite.

Those that don't know cars, (I don't mean you Kinetic) just speaking in general usually have this mentally. Buy BRAND NEW you're safe. WRONG! My sister's honda accord brand new, 2 years old blown tranny, check engine lights, blah blah blah. That sucker is a goner.

My sister's odyssey, also blown tranny @ 40k, They new a honda tech which hooked us up with a free tranny as manufacture defect.

ME? all 2nd hand baby :) no problems here.

Warranties are transferable, buy a 1 year old or even a few months old (yah rich people get rid of car they bought on impulse in months). let someone else take the depreciation for you. ;) Buy new and the minute you signed the papers, you just lost yourself a couple grand.

Also another thing, I rather drive a used car with all the bells and whistles and be happy than driving a car with nothing but and power windows.

Maybe it's irrelevant but just throwing out different opinions about car shopping.

When I just got out of high school I worked for a car stealer for the summer and I kid you not, hot august day I have guys coming in buying a stripped down car NO AC nothing. Basically a box on 4 wheels and the engine. THey insist on buying brand new when they can have the same make and model, pre-own with AC for less. confused:

But anywho, when it's time for a van for me the choice would be.
300hp, 0-6 in 6.6 second, guaranteed mom will never be home late. Once you go german, you won't go back

CLICK ON THE SITE WAIT FOR THE VIDEO TO COME ON...JIFFY LUBE WAS
EXPOSED FOR CHARGING CUSTOMERS FOR WORK THEY NEVER DID.

Yah they're known for this, my brother's prelude had a blown tranny due to no fluid because of this. THey claim to have checked and refilled all fluid including ATF but never did.

I agree, blown tranny etc on new cars, but if you think about what this car would be like NOT under warranty?

If your engine overheats and warps the head under warranty, it's a free fix. If it overheats with no warranty, you might as well sell your entire reef setup.

I'm not saying a new car will be hassle free, I'm saying you won't have to worry about being nickle and dimed (and in the case of a warped head or blown tranny, a couple thousand easy) with a warrantied car.

Given that, you are still safer finding a more reliable car when going with a new car. Sure the VW Jetta and Honda Civic are both under warranty, but the VW's are known to overheat and totally warp their heads (for example) and are fully covered, but Honda Civic's this happens much less often. If you do your research on reliability, any bulletin (documented and known defects that occurred frequently on same year model car before yours) then you are making the smart choice.

So it's flawed to think that just because it's warrantied means it's free of defects, it's just that it's easy to drop it off, get shuttled to work, and not pay a dime.

I probably wasn't clear in my previous post, thanks for clarifying to everyone though.

I've also been working on cars for about 6 years as a hobby. I've done numerous complete motor swaps, transmission rebuilds, and even accidentally shot coolant into my face... let me tell you when I got rid of my old 12 year old cars, and switched over to a brand new warranty covered car, I could never justify going back to an old car unless it was a collector's item.

so wouldn't that mean, buy a pre-own car that's still under mfg is the same deal?

Elite, is that why you wanna sell your car? chicken crap. LOL

definately, that'd be good too. but don't you think the older something gets, the more prone to breaking down?

I'd get a new civic over an old one under the same warranty (if the cost of them were similar).

The only problem is car doesn't break until one day after the warranty expired :D  ..

murphy's law always gets ya ;)

I had my entire head unit die on my car, and it needed replacement. I got it fixed within 1 mile of my warranty expiring =X

If you get used from a dealer, you can get a warranty.

The last 2 cars I bought, I paid about 55% of new and the cars were only 2-3 years old. If I can't get it below wholesale bluebook, I won't buy. Most dealers buy their used cars lower than that and still make some money.

Hang tough and negotiate hard on the last day of the month. Dealers have to pay financing if the car is sitting on the lot the first day of any month.

Best of luck,

Roy

The last WEEKEND of the month, usually they'll want to blow their inventory out by then to meet quotas.

Be patience, wait until the 07 model come out. Some dealers are already recieving 07 models. Especially if the car is due for a new body style, they're gonna give the previous year/models away.

So it will be this weekend then :D ..
When will the 07 Odyssey released? I search the web but couldn't find anything yet. I'm still searching..
