OT - Today is International Star Wars Day

So Kat,
From one fan to another-
There has always been something that has intrigued me since the finishing of the prequels. Especially parts connected between Episode 1 & 3.

An interesting fact of "Mystery" that will always make the Origins of Anakin fascinating.

We know from Anakins MOM "Shmi Skywalker" that Anakin was just concieved by a mystery. Since she was with no man...

The "Midi-Chlorians" within the Force may have played an unusual role in his "creation". Anakin supposedly had the highest count ever of anyone. Making him the "Chosen One" of prophecy to bring balance to the force.
(Eventually- Get rid of Palpatine) A subject of much discussion by the Jedi's (Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Yoda etc...

Here's the interesting part:
Episode 3:

"Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise, he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians to create life." -Palpatine(Sidious)

An awesome Mystery. Is it possible in years previous that Anakin was created by "these powers" ? Possibly unknown to Shmi, by this very former master of palpatine, Darth Plageous ?

It reminds me of the "I am your father" shocker in 1980's ESB.
Which everyone found out to be true.

But this one will be a mystery forever... Makes it a really cool thing to always ponder.

Anyone else ever notice this at all?

oh FOR SURE...i noticed this...and yes...it does get you thinking...I believe that, indeed, Anakin was created by the manipulation of the midi-chlorians....my question is, if that is the case? why was he left on Tatooine? Or...perhaps that was the plan to begin with to keep him there until he was needed to create the balance between the Light and Dark side of the Force....oh...i could go on and on about this...and some of the obvious links to reality in our world today...

George Lucas...in his infinite ablility to weave a trilogy within a trilogy...is an amazing writer...and if you return to the original THREE BOOKS...there is much more in the writing than in the movies that can allude to some of the answers...

For what ever reason,

This Darth Plageous was a Sith. Supposedly.

But was he completely a bad guy all the way? Or one who was trying to edge down the middle..? A balance of the 2?

A true complete Sith would not care to do what he did in my opinion.
it seems he had a conflict with being balanced. Instead of one way.

Perhaps Anakin was created & left on tattooine for the very case of Plageous's apprentice at the time- Palpatine. Anakin may have been meant to balance the force by getting rid of Palpatine, because perhaps Plageous had forseen his own demise from palpatine. Plageous WAS betrayed by palps... So in planning ahead, Plageous may have meant Anakin to balance things and save the galaxy from the Palpatine. If what he had forseen would come to be.. He knew the Jedi would find Ani first and at least start his training.

I think Palpatine saw his master Plageous's way of "Life powers" as a personal weekness of Plageous. Maybe his only one...
However, in the end it seems that Palpatine was wrong. Since it was this that made it possible to bring the "Emperor" down and destroy him.

Proof that pure evil alone can not always win.

well stated...and excellent observations.

another interesting question...had Anakin and Padme not met....would Anakin go to the Dark Side?

You go first...I have a lengthy reply...but must get outside now...WAY WAY WAY too beautiful to be on the computer...

Yeah, speaking of "writing":

Circa 1974-1976 The Rough Drafts for what was orginally called "The Star Wars"

Ha.. Thank god we did not end up with Characters named "Deak Starkiller"(a brother of LUKE Starkiller killed by the "early" Vader),
A Chewbacca with ears like Yoda, Stormtroopers that carried lightsabers as well as their blasters and a Vader that carried a blaster as well as his lightsaber... amongst a plethora of other it would seem really weird things.

Quite cool and funny to look at and read. But thank god it evolved to the movie version that it finally did. If people who don't appreciate sci-fi would think SW is dumb or corny, the original ideas are way "farther out there". Than most people could handle.

Interesting enough, the planet Utapau(which does appear in the Episode 3 film finally) was originally the home planet of Owen Lars and Biggs Starkiller..in the drafts. uh yeah..

'Adventures of the Starkiller, Episode I: The Star Wars'
Author(s) George Lucas

Publication information
Release date January 28, 1975
The 2nd draft of what would become later the film SW "A New Hope".

The story went through 4 or 5 drafts before actually becoming the film we know today.

Concept art from draft ideas. My favorite- Deak & Vader fight in the airlock with "breathe masks".

another interesting question...had Anakin and Padme not met....would Anakin go to the Dark Side?

It's tough to say. Lots of things could happen. it's possible that Ani would not have lost his mother if he had not met Padme. He may have gone on his own to find her sooner if he had not been pre occupied with his obligation of watching over Padme.

Who knows.. Obviously the whole "theme" is geared at-
who ever it was that he loved (being in jeopardy), Ani was influenced to the darkside in end result out of love for them. Wanting to protect them. A good thing, just clouded by the treacherous trickery involved in the shroud of the darkside. An once you turn completely over- even if with original good intentions, it is very hard to come back. But something that with love again, (for his son next time) Anakin eventually came back to the light.

It shows with choices, things are not always clear good or bad all the way.

here's my take on Padme. I believe Anakin's judgement was clouded by his obsession with her. I think he was trying to prove himself to her..to win her love in return...and by doing so..it became consuming. Love is a beautiful thing as long as it doesn't consume you. His grief with the loss of his mother..further complicated by his rejection on a number of other fronts, led him to seek recognition...or at least acceptance. Obi Wan did not help in that matter, nor did Padme...as they continually "put him in his place". The fact that Padme and Anakin concealed their love for each other...a genuine attraction born out of the similarities in their individual lives....also led to confusion...a need for Anakin to have something...anything...to believe in. His ability...his powers, the Force...was all he had. Using it gave him self confidence, that led to an inevitable ego problem...and eventually backed him into a corner from which the only escape was to continue to use his powers...it became a vicious circle.

Was he a true Jedi? No. He never was able to come to the point where his emotions did not cloud his judgement. Had Luke and Leia been able to get to him sooner...I believe that he could have been saved...but so much of what was him...his body..his soul...had already been corrupted to the point of zero recognition. For Vadar to actually become Anakin again...would be impossible.
