Does anyone know where I can get a baby Russian Tortoise? The ones at petco do not seem to be the best quality and I'd prefer to start out with something smaller and captive bread.

Where are you located? Markheim in Buffalo is a great store for reptiles. There is also R.A.R.E in Buffalo. They do reptile adoption (716)656-7273.

We have a Russian tortoise. Very cool pet. Good luck!

Pets Plus/Reptile Addicts in Lockport is a very cool petstore and they have an extensive fish section as well with some unique corals and displays. I have purchased a tortoise from them in the past without issue and they seem to be pretty good to work with.

There's also Ack's Exotic Pets in Cicero if you live closer to Syracuse. There's also usually Herpatology show or two in the spring, which I highly recommend over using most shops. You'll be afforded the chance to buy directly from a breeder instead of a middle man. Early life nutrition impacts the entire life Russians so the easiest way to ensure they've received proper care before your ownership is to get it breeder direct.

Thank you. I am still on the hunt. I was hoping to find a spot in Rochester but may have to go further. I found them locally but they're $165 which seemed a little high, but i may be wrong. When and where is that show?

Best bet is really going directly to a breeder and cutting out the middle man. I'd check out the classifieds for "Old World Tortoises" on Kingsnake Classifieds (http://market.kingsnake.com). There are actually CB babies currently being offered, and anything found locally will be WC at best.

Also, I'd stay as far away from Pets Plus-Reptiles and Exotics as you can. They are a dive and nary has there been a visit when I haven't seen animals clinging painfully to life or already dead...
