With the lockout ended, do we want to get a league going this year? I'll send renewal invites to everyone that was in last year. If anyone else would like to join, please PM me for the link and password.

I'll copy last years settings, which gave us a head to head league with the live auction draft.

A quick note for everyone. If you're going to join, the games are probably going to start fairly quickly. Probably a week and a half or so if I were to guess. So, don't put off signing up for too long.

So, join up. It's fun!

We're up to 4 people. I'd love to get it to between 6-8. Joe, feel free to extend an invite to anyone that might be interested.

I've read that the first games of the season will start on 1/19. Our draft is currently 1/20, so I'd like to move it to Thurs just to be safe.

I'll just say it here in case anybody else wants to join.

There has to be an even number of teams in the league. Every week, you match up against someone else. You start 2 LW, 2 RW, 2 C, 4 D, 2G, and one more utility player (usually a forward).

You match up with your opponent on a group of stats. If I remember, there are goals, assists, Short handed goals, hits, shots, GAA, Save % wins, and a couple others.

Your totals for the week are added to your running total for the season. So, if you won 5 categories, lost 4, and died in 2, your record of 5-4-2 would be added to your season total.

Whoever has the highest total at the end of the season wins.

There are a few different ways that leagues can draft players. We chose an online auction draft last year, and it was pretty fun. You don't have to be online at draft time though. The system will draft your players according to how you set it (or the default if you don't change your draft order). It does help to be online though.

In our auction draft, each person takes turns nominating a player. They start the bid at $1 and the player is auctioned off. You start the draft with $200. So, if I pick first, and choose Malkin, I start the bid at $1. CardiffGiant wants to bid $20. Block Head can bid $21. If nobody else bids higher than Block Head, he'll win Malkin.

Towards the end, you'll have 2nd or 3rd line players going for $2 or $3. So, you have to think about spending money, kind of like a salary cap. You have to draft 17 players (I think), and you'll usually end up picking up a few players for $1. Great deals can be had towards the end for $2 or $3 though. I picked up Ryan Callahan last year for $2. He did great for me and was a steal at that price.

That's pretty much it. Post if you have any more questions.

That was the only auction draft that I've ever done. I selected it by accident, but it turned out to be my favorite draft. The thing to keep in mind is the size of the league. It's easy to overspend early, and out league isn't very big. So there will be some good player in late rounds. Very interesting way to select a team

Now for a couple of administrative matters:
1 - We have an uneven number of players and need to even it out before draft time. I'd prefer to add one to the group and then lock it down at 8. Please PM me if you are interested.
2 - I will be unveiling the 2013 "URS Stanley Cup" this weekend. This will be a decent frag that will grow untouched in my frag tank until the end of the season, and then will be awarded to the winner (if you don't live in Buffalo, we'll work out shipping or pick up at a swap). In the extremely likely event that I win, the cup will be renamed "frag of shame" and will be awarded to the 1st loser, which some refer to as "2nd place".

I am going to contribute two frags to the 1st place pot or we can come up with 1st/2nd place frag awards.

We have 8 teams right now. Jon would like to join, but we need a second person to join with him. If we can get two people by tomorrow afternoon I will get you guys in and lock it down.

As a little incentive, here are a couple of (crappy cell phone) shots of this years URS Stanley Cup. I'm looking forward to seeing how big this bad boy gets over the course of the season.
