We purposely picked an Aussi that was a couch potatoe rather than one that wanted to work. Calm and very trustworthy with kids, dogs, cats, birds, you name it. Polite but didn't care about to be friendly with strangers. Mailmen and people at the store might give him a biscuit which he'd take and just put down at his feet. At the groomers where he knew them, he'd sit and wait for his biscuit before he left. Never needed a leash. Just talked to him and he followed, or stayed or sit or whatever....just read your mind.
The Pap however, is the very smart but disobedient. I have to walk him on a leash in my own back yard because once he's a few paces from you he'll run off and eat junk and come back when he felt like it. All guests or anybody that comes over, delivery people, friends of friends, all want to know what kind of dog he is and you can see they think he is soo cute. Dancing with his front paws in the air or running around with his toy and throwing it at you or rolling on his back and waving his paws in the air while looking at you. Everyone wants to dogsit or take him home. That is until he pees on their carpet. The cutest thing but he is the one you can't trust with other dogs. He'll bark and growl at Rotts or other big dogs. Good with toddlers and all kids and people. I think he doesn't miss us at all when we are away as long as somebody---anybody is playing with him. Minimal grooming, bathing, sheding and odor. He can be noisy and hyper.
