Heh we actually have a spare but its truly functioning and not broken. We got it when our other one did turn into the red brick of death and it took a month to replace

Ok...? So.... Are you looking to sell it? What are you lookin for? Honestly I'm not looking to spend more then 100$ Thats kinda pushing it.

check your build date, if its after august 07, you dont have anything to fret. Well so they say. otherwise, those lights that light up on the front when you turn it on. the green ring. well they'll flash red and your system is shot. pretty common problem w/ all xboxs pre 08/07. Faulty cooling, specifically the use or lack of use of arctic silver. and microsofts brilliant idea to use thermal interface material some how 30-40yrs use of arctic silver alone was proof enough that it works.

I talked to my husband and for a virtually brand new system he says 100 is too low. Maybe try checking on craigslist? I'm sure theres plenty of people who aren't sure what to do with the red light of death.

I also borrowed "brick" from apple products dying. They become a useless brick especially if apple refuses to fix them (re: people trying to hack the iphone with its new firmware update)

i've hit up craigs and ebay and all that other fun stuff. thought i'd check here as well. The new iphone firmware's a joke... but i'm not going to get into that.

Agreed, it is a complete joke.

Since they have extended the warranty on this specific issue I doubt you will find anyone willing to sell there's for $100 when they can just send it in and basically get a new console but good luck regardless.
I recently had this problem on mine and sent it into Microsoft and received a new unit in less than three weeks.

They recently changed it so everyone that has been sold to date is covered from my understanding. I bought mine on day one and it just crapped out last month and it was covered under the new warranty.

Mine just crapped out on me the other day. I'm waiting for Microsoft to send me the box to send mine back to them. Hopefully it won't take too long.

This is an excuse for me to go buy a PS3, especially since it's a Blue Ray player as well!

I like my PS3, IMO graphics look better than the xbox, but not a lot of games out there (that I like), I did get it because of the blue ray :) I'm not a big gamer. At the time I was looking for a blue ray player they were about 700 and the PS3 made more sense to me.

It's one of the best blu ray players on the market. There aren't too many games out but the games that are good look really nice. I'd personally wait till Nov to buy it. Big rumor they have another version coming out that is 399.00.

Another good benefit is blu-ray is selling at a much higher rate then HD so it will probably be around for awhile.

I too have heard that the PS3's blue ray player is a lot better than most. Especially on start up time vs. a component player.

Jay, where did you hear that from? I would like to do some reading on the subject, especially since I plan on getting one soon.

Thanks!

The blue ray that comes with the PS3 is a top notch player and is on par with most of the stand alone Blue ray players on the market.
As far as gaming systems go, I think the 360 is better for gaming and if you compare some of the shared platforms the 360 has outdone the PS3 in graphics on most of them like Madden.
With that being said, the PS3 is a better buy if you want an all in one media system IMOP.

As far as I'm concerned since we're now totally off topic. Blu-Ray is going down the sh!tter. HD-DVD, is doing everything BR is at a lower price with better picture and sound. Altho Fox now delivering 50gb discs w/ Masterbit DTS is nice. All of my customers go w/ HD-DVD over BR. HDDVD is coming out w/ sub 200$ players come the season. W/ Paramounts recent exclusivity to HD-DVD. Blu-Ray only has more players out due to the PS3, which funny enough only 1/3 of people that own the ps3s know that its a br player. I'll be honest w/ you, as far as BR players the PS3 is the best route you can go as far as quality/price. Its one of the few at this moment in time that has 1.3 HDMI which is "the future" so to speak. But I'll stick w/ my HD-DVD and I'll continue to push my customers towards it as opposed Sony's pompous attitude towards always have proprietary media. Sony needs to get off there high horse and play ball w/ everyone else.
